I keep thinking that, perhaps, one day I'd like to own a cat.  Something small and little that can mostly look after itself.

The road can get lonely.

And we actually have a lot of PBR boxes laying around.  According to Youtube, cats love to push themselves into boxes.

[Forgive him. He's so bad at this. He even sticks out his tongue as he tries to get the phone browser to behave. It doesn't. He ends up on men seeking women, romance. Complete with pictures.]

[She gives him his chance to do it for himself, but when she checks on what he's found, Mary has to hold in her laughter. She reaches and plucks the phone from his hands.] Let me.

[Poor JC. Her fingers fly over the device, and then hands it back. This time it's definitely Craigslist and cats available for adoption in the area.] I believe this is the companionship you're looking for.

[He's had too much to do to learn how to properly use technology! That's what he has Matt and Andy for! He doesn't own a mobile, not even a prepaid one. He has no one to call but his mum and his step-dad and he does that by pay phone every once in awhile, calling collect or with a few pounds he can get off of Judas.]

Let's see... Black cat, six years old...oh, she looks sweet!

[Ah, so that's why you keep them around.]

You should look through the whole first page first before you make a decision. [She peers over his shoulder and then points to a calico one.] What of this one?

[Mary ought to realize her mistake in 3...2...]

[Oops.]

You can't take in all the strays on the page, and you know the supplies for them will add up.

[Judas might reign in his temper for spending on one kitty, but two? Mm.] Don't you have enough strays with you here in the desert?

[She smiles at him.]

[Okay. She has a point. It wouldn't be fair to the cats or the Twelve to adopt them all.]

Which one then? How do you pick?

[he knew how to pick his group because there was a spark in them. Something remarkable.]

[She's got good ideas if people would just listen to her.]

Well, you can see if any are sick, or need extra care. You can start with that to help you decide, such as if you can spare the extra piece or so for medicines along with the food for it.

Don't think Judas would let me use money for cat medicine when it should be spent on people.

[And that was fair. So he scrolls through photos and sad stories about pet adoption instead.]

There's a little black one whose owner's child developed an allergy...

[Mary looks at the choice JC is talking about, and uses her finger to scroll through the information.]

I think it's cute. And you'd be doing a good thing for its owners while helping the kitty, too.

[Two birds with one stone, and everybody would be happy!]

Now to slip away before Judas finds out and tries to stop me. Do you want to come?

He'll probably think we're off to do something else. [Given her profession and all.] And yes, of course I'd love to come.

Well that wouldn't be so bad. I don't need to check with anyone.

[Zoom! Over his head!]

It's close. Just two miles or so.

[You're so innocent, JC.]

Two miles? We've walked further before. [Mary reaches down to take his hand and leans up against him. With that pose, someone wouldn't think they were off to go pick up a kitty.]

[You know what? He loves hand holding. He just does. It's wonderful. And Mary has nice hands to hold. He rubs a thumb along her knuckles and tugs her off.]

She can eat some of my food if Judas frowns more than usual.

I think his face is stuck in that frowning face. [That was probably only Mary's perspective since Judas didn't care for her.]

Do you know what you might name it? [She will hit you if it's Judas' name or one of his apostles. Name it Tiger, JC. That's a cool name.]

[Why would he name the cat Judas? That would get confusing!]

I'm going to name her after my mum I think.

[So. Another Mary. And that's not confusing how?]

[They could put little dreads in the cat's hair until he gets the same frowny face - then the cat and Judas would match!]

...Give a different meaning to 'cat-calling' then if you're calling it's name and I answer I suppose.

[She grins at the terrible joke, and then puts an arm around JC's waist as they walk.]

Perhaps Miryam then.

[Mary, but a different variation.]

Otherwise....you're right. That might be awkward. The Twelve would be confused.

Miryam is pretty. If it's a girl kitty, you should name her that.

[What for a boy though?]

Joesph for a boy kitty maybe?

[She's surprised at the question. No one asks about her past, only about what's going on in the present and what it's like in her job. It's a minute before she answers.]

...Cyrus. It doesn't sound very cat-like though.

Did they actually name her dad? Awesome!

[He likes hugs too. And Mary is great for hugs. Even while walking.]
