Well, I fought a lot of Jedi simulations growing up. My Master had...a very particular reason for training me like that.

My first master...couldn't teach me what I really needed, and my second was too blinded by his own ambitions to see me as anything but a weapon.

[In all honesty, Starkiller's never really been sure about anything except for Juno. He was a Jedi killer because Vader wanted him to be, and a figurehead for the Rebellion because Kota wasn't sure that the Rebellion would accept a former Sith apprentice as their leader.]
