"You were taken from your family at six months old?" By the expression on Rey's face, it was clear she didn't like that idea.

Yes. My abilities were...plain, I'm told. At that time, Force-sensitive children were taken from their families as early as possible. I trained initially under Master Yoda.

Swallowing thickly, Rey nodded as she tried to understand how his parents could just let him go like that.

Abandonment issues much? Or maybe that was just Rey that had to deal with those.

"Did your family not have a choice in the matter?"

[He doesn't hold any bitterness. There is no room for it.]

Yes and no. They could have fled the Jedi, I suppose. But it is thought to be a tremendous honor.

"Were your parents not force-sensitive then?"

The rules of the Jedi were not something Rey was that familiar with, to be fair.

No. [Not to his knowledge anyway.] I do not know them well, but if they were sensitive, I think our paths would cross more often.

"Could you not have gone to visit them?"

Rey had a hard time believing that anyone who knew where their family was, could just completely abandon them for the rest of their life. Even if that was exactly what happened to her.

My training was year round. Grand Master Yoda knew how to keep me busy and then I was taken on by Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

[It's about training and isolation. There is no time for family.]

"That's terrible." Rey said bluntly yet quietly. She had no idea it was that isolating to be a Jedi. At least until she came across Luke, all by himself on that island.

I did not think so; I did not know any different. [Maybe that makes it better or worse; he doesn't know.] Anakin did know the difference. It was hard on him.

Rey had a hard time feeling remorse for someone who killed so many people. It was made even worse by the fact that he happened to be her grandfather.

"It does not excuse his actions."

No, but, in hindsight, I can see where we put unfair pressure on him. [Anakin as a child will be forgotten by many, but not him.]

"She's the General of the Resistance." That fact is enough to make her smile, if only a little.

"No. She hasn't." She knows something else, which is given away by the suddenly sad expression that took over her face.
