Dear Mundane

First of all, since I'm meant to be a modern AU, I don't think you should be thinking of how to write this in Shakespearian language. Not that my original counterpart wasn't the wittiest of men, but we both know that you're not completely up to the task of trying to replicate the great Bard's style of writing.

Secondly; I really suggest re-reading, and re-watching. Because that user name you've chosen for me? I was never Pedro's jester. I was his friend, a great confidante, a man of wisdom and words so sharp that others came to hear their follies spoken to them so they could laugh. I wasn't a jester. That was just... Beatrice, and her evil tongue trying to make people think that.

Just, remember that, okay? I am a man of wit, intelligence, and great style. I am not someone who contemplates their navel, or just swoons over a pretty face because of love. Honestly.

To your good health, and let's hope we get these... misunderstandings ironed out, yeah?

Benedick.

P.S. I approve of the face claim. Yes, he's handsome enough to do.

Oh yes. This is a great idea.

Sarcastic? Me? Why I'd never...

Alright, I guess you've caught me. I have no choice but to be honest now! I think this is a terrible idea. What would I even do here? I doubt I'd ever see my family here, so all that's left to me is a crowded space full of strangers

What-? Benedick? I think I'd prefer the mob of strangers. Or maybe a tooth extraction.

Thou art binding me, madame master, though 'tis in a far better condition than this Ariel hast found himself bound before. Instead of tree, I get a so-called "muse box" to be confined to. And lonely 'tis, until other muses join in. Prithee, shall others come? Or will't be only Ariel?

[That, dear Ariel, depends on other muns with Shakespeare muses!]

Then Ariel shall fly, fly about! And whisper the name of [community profile] shaxper into the ears of any he shall find!

I must say, dear lady, you've had some messed up character ideas in your day, but this might take the cake. Seriously, I'm considering calling your therapist right now on your behalf, because this is just not healthy.

What, you don't have a therapist? Ah, that'd be your problem there.

Not that I'm trying to change your mind for you or anything, because so far all the ideas you've had about where to send me are brilliant. Lots of people things to do. Mortals to muck about with. A wife to avoid. All my favourite pastimes, really.

All I'm saying is, I'm pretty weird. As far as character ideas go. Not complaining, just putting it out there. Admitting you have a problem is the first step blah blah everything and all that.

Now tell me more about these 'sex games'...

Sincerely,

O. Baron

[ Muse snatches away mun's schoolwork. ] Enough of this! Your Fairy Queen commands you! [ Tosses schoolwork over shoulder, ignoring mun's plaintive cries of "no!" ]

You've been working too much, Mundy. Much too much. You haven't even had time for me. [ Which is a big deal in Titania's small little egocentric world. ]

It's time for some fun. Let's go find some unwitting mortals and play some pranks! I promise that we'll only enchant the jerks.

So says Titania of the Fairies.

...

.....

This has got to be one of your better ideas. You, who rarely play men, and when you do, well, you swap them for women.

I am humbled and delighted to be part of your fold.

Now point me to the party, and hand me my sword. I'm going to find myself a sheath.

Or are we going with modern humor?

In that case, I better find myself a dame.

Is this my fate? Taken from Heaven, my father, my brother, and placed in Hell?

Shall I never enjoy rest?

I wish you did not berate Hamlet so, Mundane. My Prince had been ill of mind and heart when he committed such acts of violence and perjury. No matter -- we are both long gone from this earth's surface. Why should we be judged by one who does not know the trials we suffered or faced the demons we have faced.

My love is still absolute, and though My Prince may be stubborn, he is still My Prince.

And the child we would have had so happily...I only wish we had the time.

But no more! My tears have long dried and I will shed no more 'til the Heavens take the earth.

[Hamlet whistles a tune pointedly.]

Shall we, shall we gather at the tree
Where they never hung the fraticidal king?

[He grins dementedly.]

Many thanks, dearest mun. You shall not regret this. My homicidal uncle will not survive the trap we shall set for him. Panem cannot survive his poisons for long.

Very fine.

And I say this truly from my heart, she is a fine girl, fairer of face then me, but when shall vanity allow such complaint?

She seems witty and quick, as is only right for what she will endure with-

(Spoilers Bea, spoilers.)

After such time as I have lived and been reiterated how can one spoil? But, to be kind to such kindness as you have show me I rest.

But you will, when such occasion arises, share this vision with me? We will make a merry night of it with wine and feast and sweets.

(How about popcorn and a coke?)

That, dear lady, shall be decided upon the hour then.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But I'm perfectly willing to swear that when you turned, and smiled at me, a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.

...it is you, isn't it?

So foul and fair a day I have not seen.

He, Ariel, who was free some days hence is not once more in servitude, my lady? Thou art not a powerful sorceress like my mistress Prospera, how canst thou hope to keep this spirit in chains in your mind?

No! No, do not punish me for speaking so, I beg you!

I accept my fate, but prithee, bid me do my spiriting gently.

Yes but can you sustain it? That is really the question - and the answer to which all depends upon.

For a certain definition of 'all'. And a certain definition of 'depends', too, I should imagine.

It would be easier to manage with some backup, that's all I'm saying. I won't even much complain that you seem a bit... adrift, if you catch my meaning, as to where you even intend to place me.

So long as it's not on any boats!

I...

[ Kate is unsure how to take such news. On one hand, she is touched by her Mundane's assurance that she, Princess of Valois and Queen of England, is worthy of being sent to a game. On the other, this does mean that she will be away from home, and may not be on time to welcome Hal back from his campaign. She so wants to put little Henry in her husband's arms herself. ]

...am honored.

[ Maybe Hal will join her. ]

How...how could you? You have taken me from my rightful end. No longer a daughter, no longer a sister, or no longer a lover--my sheets stained already with blood. Hamlet has gone mad, and with his injuries to me, once, twice, and this staying, growing third, there be no reason to linger any longer.

What future is there for us?

Sorrowfully,
Ophelia
