The idea of the soul residing outside the body does not ring so dissimilar from another easily corruptible force from my own world. The bending arts were abused passed the point of recognition as a spiritual gift, and the soul is always the first to break when absolute power corrupts absolutely.
That said, I have little faith -- so to speak -- in anything that sounds even remotely like it.

But I don't know anything about your world, so perhaps it's different there.

And even then, the Dead would probably still rise.

Philosophically, it will be interesting to find the parallels and decide if humans are the same everywhere.

I do have an inquiry, if I may.
Given your thoughts on those with unfair and impure advantages, suppose an individual with such an impurity chose to use it to support our cause. Would you accept?
[By all accounts the answer to this should be obvious. It would almost appear as if he is sassin' you, Amon.]
no subject
Speaking in hypotheticals, [ his voice is a razor wire wrapped in silk ] this imaginary ally of yours would only serve our cause in an ancillary role, and would never be accepted by the movement as a whole. That is only if their impurity would be worth the trouble in the first place.
What sort of person would choose such a discordant life, I wonder?
no subject
What sort of person, indeed. [This isn't to claim that Amon is such a person; there is hardly enough proof of it that the Lt. has witnessed personally. But he's given serious consideration to the Avatar's accusations and the rumors of his own fate.] It's understandable, I'm sure, why one might question the nature of that person.
[Let it never be said that the Lt. isn't bound to his Equalist convictions.]

Your concerns are not without ground, but may I address a key factor in your argument? If we were to make such a concession in this scenario, then it can be assumed that they simply wish...to save themselves for last.

Okay.
Um... This is awkward.

Don't construe my motives as self-serving or simply so blindly malicious, brother.

And what would your motives actually--[Wait, let's back up here for a moment.]...what did you call me.

Before I rid you of our shared impurity, at the very least, I owe you as much.

Wait, hold on, he'll think of something.
Give him a moment, okay. It's not every day that you find out Amon is your older brother, after all.]

[This would be a tearful reunion if you weren't such an ass, bro.]

If Dad were still alive, I bet he'd be so proud of you right now.

You're blaming a fourteen year old boy for running away from that monster a few years too late, brother. Pocketing the police force, manipulating the council to save face, the raids on Dragon Flats?
The non-benders and Equalists are out for your blood after everything you've done even before the movement and the only thing keeping them off you is me. Dad may have put all his hopes for revenge on me, but take a look in the mirror.
You're everything he wanted in a son.
no subject
I'm not some revenge-driven fool like what he wanted. I am a better man than he ever was. I was going to save the city from those who would do nothing but destroy the peace. Dad was just a crime boss and he hid from the law just like any other criminal. I run the city and if it wasn't for you and your little Equalist movement, the city would be a better place than it is now.
[The denial is strong with this one.]
The Equalists are nothing but tools for revenge. When you take away the Avatar's bending, you'll only be getting payback for what Avatar Aang did to our dad. You're nothing more than a hypocrite, Noatak, and whatever you think of what I've done pales in comparison to your plans.
no subject
You just want to be better than him! The only thing you care about is yourself and you might as well have just admitted it. The police force -- benders, criminal organizations like Dad and government officials -- benders, and all the way up to the city council -- benders. Every last one of them and you're at the head throwing your weight around. A tyrant is a tyrant is a tyrant whether they're sitting on a throne or running the underbelly of a city.
If we weren't born the way we were then none of this would have ever happened! I'm actually trying to stop all of that and you just want to prove yourself to a dead man.
no subject
What makes you think you know anything about me? I did what I thought best for Republic City. Does that make me a tyrant or merely a leader who wants to run the city as well as he can to the best of his abilities? Despite what you may believe, bending is not the root of all evil. The majority of people in power do not abuse their bending to control the nonbenders. You're just too caught up on the past to ever realize it.
You mean if our dad wasn't Yakone, none of this would have happened. Us being benders wasn't the problem; him being a vengeful monster was. Why would I ever want to prove myself to him? I was weak, I wouldn't bloodbend, I wasn't a prodigy like you. I never wanted to live up to his standards. I saw what it did to you.
