 The idea of the soul residing outside the body does not ring so dissimilar from another easily corruptible force from my own world. The bending arts were abused passed the point of recognition as a spiritual gift, and the soul is always the first to break when absolute power corrupts absolutely.

That said, I have little faith -- so to speak -- in anything that sounds even remotely like it.

There's truth in this, but it growths harder to take that heart when each day you watch so-called magic's stranglehold tighten like the executioner's noose in the name of peace and democracy.

And in my world, magic- Charter Magic, not Free Magic- is the best defense we have against the Dead and Free Magic users. Magic can be used to heal and protect, as well as destroy and dominate.

But I don't know anything about your world, so perhaps it's different there.

Maybe not so different in terms of presence, but you grow tired of the mystical when it perverts the fabric of society while calling itself our sentinel of balance. Would your world be better off without your "Free Magic"?

Perhaps, but it's not possible to be rid of it. Free Magic elementals cannot truly be killed- only bound away by Charter Magic, or destroyed by a Free Magic force greater than their own.

And even then, the Dead would probably still rise.
