The idea of the soul residing outside the body does not ring so dissimilar from another easily corruptible force from my own world. The bending arts were abused passed the point of recognition as a spiritual gift, and the soul is always the first to break when absolute power corrupts absolutely.
That said, I have little faith -- so to speak -- in anything that sounds even remotely like it.

You just want to be better than him! The only thing you care about is yourself and you might as well have just admitted it. The police force -- benders, criminal organizations like Dad and government officials -- benders, and all the way up to the city council -- benders. Every last one of them and you're at the head throwing your weight around. A tyrant is a tyrant is a tyrant whether they're sitting on a throne or running the underbelly of a city.
If we weren't born the way we were then none of this would have ever happened! I'm actually trying to stop all of that and you just want to prove yourself to a dead man.

What makes you think you know anything about me? I did what I thought best for Republic City. Does that make me a tyrant or merely a leader who wants to run the city as well as he can to the best of his abilities? Despite what you may believe, bending is not the root of all evil. The majority of people in power do not abuse their bending to control the nonbenders. You're just too caught up on the past to ever realize it.
You mean if our dad wasn't Yakone, none of this would have happened. Us being benders wasn't the problem; him being a vengeful monster was. Why would I ever want to prove myself to him? I was weak, I wouldn't bloodbend, I wasn't a prodigy like you. I never wanted to live up to his standards. I saw what it did to you.
