All these damn humans everywhere. I don't know what you want with me but I know you're messing with the wrong person. I'll eat you alive. What game? There is no game. There is only me.

Hmmmm, how about this then! If you can't land a hit on me, you'll give love and peace a try instead?

[Peace and what now? Arlong laughs. Obviously he's never set one little toe inside even the Grand Line. He's not even worth attacking too seriously.]

[Eh, dodging all those seem like a lot of work. Vash hates having to do a lot of work. So instead he springs up easily into the air, up and over Arlong.

Violence is the only choice. [And the only people who spoke otherwise had the luxury of never being hunted down. He tries to snag the man with a good solid right as soon as he touches down.]

[Hunted down? Vash gets hunted down three times a day at home. Sometimes six on the weekends.

Vash quickly ducks under the right, having expected a follow up, but he had to admit, for a guy so big he was faster than Vash expected. He couldn't take him as lightly as he first thought. He jumps back a little farther as he ducks back up.]

No, if there's one thing I've learned in my life is that violence is the wrong choice. It just leads to more violence and heartache for everyone.

[Hmph. He is a springy bastard and though Arlong could probably get him if he expended enough energy, is it really worth it? He is a human, which is a point against him, but it's not as if beating the pulp out of him would give Arlong any conceivable advantage.]

[Other than the fact that the human speaks strangely. It's not that he's never heard people encouraging peace--but generally not humans unless they are squealing for their lives and to leave them alone already.]

You know people who speak peace usually end up dying for it. [Brother Ti for one, though that was more along the lines of getting along with humans-- it was still the same thing.]

And in the end it's still the same. It's the strong who live and the weak who suffer.

[Now that Vash isn't being punched at, he smiles, as if he and Arlong are old friends.]

You think so? I don't know. I actually tend to disagree. Being strong doesn't mean you have to be mean after all. If the strong and weak befriended each other and people smiled more than snarled. I think it would all work out best in the end.

It's when people start acting mean and scary and force others to act even scarier to keep others away is when we're weak. If we're peaceful and make lots of friends instead; we're at our strongest.

[If he had a gag reflex (that he would admit to.) He'd be doing it right now. What the hell is your problem, anyway? Peaceful and make lots of friends.There are nakama who you fight with but no good has ever come of just peace.]

Where I come from you either fight or get crushed. You can't count on anyone for anything.

[Except your nakama, but that's a given. He wonders if this human has any. If he does, Arlong almost feels sorry for them. He's either crazy or stupid]

And have you considered fighting to protect people? You know, like every person around you? [He means EVERYONE.]

I do. [And by that he means he protects himself and his own people. And if humans have to suffer and die because of it, what the hell does he care. And it's not as if he kills all of them even though he could]

But you gotta admit a little extortion is good for the soul. [Because he knows that, deep down, everyone is greedy for something. Money, sex, freedom, even peace, and they're willing to do whatever they have to do to get it.]

...that's not exactly protecting people.

It's protecting my own people. Anyway the only two good things ever to come out of a human is money or maps, if you don't have either, might as well shoot your brains out and get it over with.

I don't know. I think they're worth much, much more than that. They've done a lot of good I'm sure. I think you should try to expand your view to include all species.

I think you should shut the hell up or I'll kill the first three humans I find just to spite you. I'll be sure to make it nice and slow, too.

[He's really not interested in expanding his view. He's only interested in money and power. That's the only thing that matters in any world. The only thing that lasts.]
