Okay, so, first, obviously, thank you for creating me. And for breaking me out this morning even though you're worried about whether or not your mother will approve of the turkey. (Who really makes a backup turkey? Really?)

But I have to say, I don't really know what I'm doing. I still haven't entirely learned the ins and outs of living in Chicago yet. It's only been eight months! Plus you gave my brother an icon, so I can only assume that means he's going to be around to give his two cents, and people tend to be afraid of him. So, please don't be upset if this doesn't go well at first.

I am kinda looking forward to meeting all the people, though. I mean, there are superheroes and aliens and all that? How exciting is that? So this'll be fun. Just probably a bit awkward and crazy.

I have seen many things, but I am sure you know much more than me about other subjects. It has only been in the last three years I've really interacted with humans.

On purpose or by coincidence?

Hm. A little of both I suppose. Humans rarely visited by home when I was very young and I lived in a boarding school for Mages when I left. Just little chance and then incidental isolation.

Ah, apologies. You are a human, are you not? I should not assume.

Yep. Very human. Squishy on the inside and everything. [Such a bad joke.]

I sincerely hope to never find out how squishy humans are on the inside. [Okay watch this space he will crack a tiny little smile and make his idea of a joke.] You're already soft on the outside.

Well, yeah, unless you're my brother.

[Tessanne appreciates the effort. She's no stand-up comedian here after all.]

Mmm? You've a mixed species family too?

[Uh, missed the point there...]

Uh, no, it's a joke...that my brother's sort of a tough guy and so we joke that he doesn't have any soft spots. Well. Other than me I guess.

Are there any non-human races in your reality?

[tessanne]

Nope.

[giantsofty]

Really?

{He sits up, clearly fascinated.]

It must be an incredibly peaceful world.

It's not perfect but we're trying.

[Yeah, Tessanne can't do that.]

That... is a very wise way to think, I believe.

I've been told I'm a shameless optimist. Drives people nuts.

As a pragmatist, I'm a fraction jealous of people with such positive outlooks.

I've always been that way. Balances out Andrew - my brother. He's the cynic.

[giantsofty]

Hmmm.

[He thinks for a moment.]

It's not so clear cut with my siblings... But then, I am one of seventeen.

[tessanne]

...Wow. Really?

Uhm. Half-siblings.

[Oh, he's going pink. Wonderful.]

Father... Was a very passionate man.

[tessanne]

Um...yeah.

[Tessanne was an accident, so she has no concept of a large family.]

Are you still in touch with all your siblings?

[giantsofty]

[Good, yes, moving on-]

I am. When we were very young, we used to meet altogether a few times a year. These days we're more likely to meet two or three a time, but we try to be together at least once. I went to school with a few of them as well.

[tessanne]

I've always been close to my brother, but this is the first time we've spent a lot of time together since I was young. There's a pretty big age difference between us and he was away with the Marines for a long time.

[giantsofty]

I know of that too, the age difference and the distance. Brother Aharon is almost eight years my elder and there are many between him and I.

But it is pleasant to know, isn't it, that there are people with whom your bonds transcend choice? I say to cherish every moment. As you say, you will not stay with him forever.

[He also doesn't know what Marines are, but he'll save the question for later.]

Yeah, I don't know what I'd do without him. Especially right now. He's like one of the only people I know in Chicago, and the only one I feel comfortable with.
