You are quite insane, you know that yes?

It's the only explanation I can think for it, after all. He's one of the Fair Folk, not exactly someone I would think of spending time - they bring terror and create mischief for their own amusement and this one steals children. Well, alright, to be fair he collects children who have been wished away to him and then turns them into goblins if the wisher does not run to save them or fails the run but I don't quite see how that's any better.

I suppose he is handsome in an unconventional sense, and you can stop the sniggering - I am aware I'm not exactly conventional myself. And I suppose the fact that he actually does seem to care for the children he takes is pleasing and frankly anyone stupid enough to wish away a child to a Fae, well, running a confusing labyrinth seems a tame punishment. I do realise all this, but still... Jareth?

Really?

... Have you been taking some Dried Frog Pills? No? Maybe we should get you some. Oh. Very well. I suppose out of all the ideas you've had this 'ship' isn't the worst.

At least it's not another damn vampire...

Thanks, y'know, for finally giving me a face. Sorry it took the death of the guy who wrote me to bring it about.

But still, a face is a face and I carn't complain.

Nice to be out and about again, too. Been gettin' awfully cramped with all the newcomers. And the old dogs still kicking around, for that matter. So thanks for that, too, even if it's been a while.

Look, it's not just that I'm not flattered. I'm really, deeply, profoundly uninterested.

[Rincewind adjusts his hat and tries to look honest and trustworthy.]

Trust me, you don't want me in a game. I'd do terribly in a game. I'd run away and refuse to interact with anyone. I'd give you writers block. Take it from me, I've had it with spells and it's awful. Every time you'd want the right word you'd get stuck with nothing to say, and everyone looking at you and it would just get worse and worse and build up and nothing would come out ...

The point is, I don't want to go anywhere. I've finally made it home. I'm happy. I've got a good thing going on with the Library and, frankly, I'm bored. It's everything I've ever wanted out of life.

I'm not going anywhere.
goodoldsue: (What? I only had the one)

You have never been good at waiting. But even you have to admit that it's been less than a day since you finished the tests, so checking the page obsessively won't make one mote of difference.

Now, there are those tags you should answer. So, get to it.

As you are not a small child, or in need of a governess, I fail to see the reasoning behind my presence here.

I know you're looking for a game, but I'm not going anywhere that won't accept a sheep or two. Nor will I be alone there for long. There's nowhere that they can't get into.

[That subject line has not escaped Otto's notice. Unimpressed vampire is looking at you funny, mundane.]

Oh how ve laff.

[Ha. Ha.

Still. Always look on the bright side of life--or unlife, as it so happens.]

Ve are goink to be having a sing-song und a hot cocoa, yes?

No?

I don't see vhy not, you are not havink any ozzer plans.

My dear miss, and please, call me Moist if you will, I don't mean to bring attention to any sort of ignorance but...surely you're aware that there are characters out there with far more development? Yes, it's true! A whole plethora of sorts, all with varying degrees of wit and charm and, more importantly, credibility. Why, I've heard there are some who can even fire lasers from their eyes or turn things to gold with a single touch! Surely a simple former postmaster pales in comparison to such debonair sorts?

No, no. Don't feel pity for me at all. I promise you, I will find a way  to make due as you search for a more fulfilling avatar for your ever-dwindling well of free time. For free time is such a precious commodity, isn't it? Of course it is. Yours most of all.

So yes, I insist that you have all sorts of adventures with your superheroes, your mages, and your talking animals. I will be perfectly content to sit on the side and continue on as things are.

I believe, madam, that we both still have much to learn. If you would be so kind as to leave me to my education, I would be happy to leave you to yours ... such as it is.

I don't understand you. You say you think talking to people will be good for me, and then you look for the games most likely to cause me more pain.

Well, ahem...afternoon, sir.

The name of that place is a little dreadful, don't you think?

[Not really.]

It's not unfair, I don't think. Isn't your fault. I was going to be some place like that eventually. Bit like trying to catch two hares, my life. I can't have it AND have it the way I want it.

"All I have to do is watch?" Bugger me, it's going to be worlds more than just "watching" before someone decides that handsome man in the red getup looks lonely and then they drag me into the whole mess! What I wouldn't give for a nice sit down right now.

Least the application is pertinent. Never seen so many words in my favor. Mind you, the maximum for me has ever been about eight and a half sentences and a run-on. No contractions.
granddaughterofdeath: (*does not buy this excuse*)
[personal profile] granddaughterofdeath
Hm, you say you were too busy but I am still in your head space. You have not even made an attempt on any of your academic essays, and you have spent most of your time re-watching animated moving pictures instead of even taking a look at the reading you ought to do. Why you are not leaving well enough alone when you've got far too much to be getting on with I'll never know.

Well, I hope you have no intention of putting me in a game any time soon. You know you have not got the time

IT WON'T BE THE FIRST, NOR WILL IT BE THE LAST. TRUST ME, I WOULD KNOW. I AM THE LAST.

Fine, I won't complain. You've had worse ideas. At least it's linear and makes sense. At least there's a payoff, for me and someone else. [ Assuming this idea works. Big assumption. ]

One question, though: could you have picked a location a little less like home? I don't think you could have. If you laugh at me trying to use a washing machine I'll - it'll be bad, you wait.

No, I will not flood the laundry. It's only buttons. Stop laughing.

THIS AGAIN MUNDANE?

HAVEN'T I BEEN STUCK LIKE THIS A FEW TIMES NOW? AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW LONG THIS WILL LAST EITHER.

I SUPPOSE I WILL BE GOING BY BILL DOOR AGAIN FOR THE TIME BEING. HOPEFULLY NOT TOO LONG THOUGH, I KNOW HOW THESE THINGS TEND TO TURN OUT. AND THINGS DO SEEM TO BE FALLING APART.

DIDI AND I WILL NO DOUBT BE QUITE BUSY TRYING TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE FAMILY EVEN WITH OUR POWERS. I'D RATHER NOT BE AT EVEN MORE OF A DISADVANTAGE.

[Long drawn out sigh, by gods you'll know he is not happy.]

Look, I've had enough running around and trying not to die! Is it so wrong to just live the rest of my life without any of this getting tossed around in space and time? I have meals, laundry, up to eight buckets of coal a day...Are you listening?

[A pause. You know, he's not quite sure what he's getting into with his fussing at the mun now that he thinks about it. For all he knows the mun has something diabolical/terrible and/or life threatening in store (all of which would be a typical turn in his life, but that's not the point).

And with his danger radar pinging, he's just going to try warily to take a step back from all sides at the same time with mixed results.]

No. Look. This is stupid. I'm not going to lecture you on doing things on impulse, but what do you stand to gain from this, exactly? It's crowded enough in here as it is, and you've got plans. I've got plans, too. I know you know that.

And if there's anything you ought to understand, it's that Paul needs me. Now. [ Big sister bossy voice. ] Stop this silliness, please.
