(no subject)

...this is a terrible idea.

I'm used to it here; the darkness doesn't bother me, the silence is now comforting, the chill something I bear without notice. But you! You want to send me back. You want me to follow him into the light and then tear me from him for your own amusement - oh, yes. You call them "games" for good reason, despite your nonchalance. The subject matter shouldn't be taken lightly.

I am not your muse. You should rethink this.

[That wasn't what he'd asked, nor was it good enough for what he needed- but by the time he clarified, it would doubtless be too late. So Herc just went ahead and focused on that chill he was getting, that sense of approaching death- or in this case, Death- and made his call; one more bound before he's close enough...

And then he swerved once more, hands lashing out to catch and hold his pursuer as he fought the feeling of incipient mortality all over again.]
NOW!

[No lock or bar can hold back the taker of souls, but with the blood of a god in his veins, Hercules surely can- and while the hero can easily be avoided by one who can disappear through the very earth, that means nothing if he's already caught you in ambush.]

Come, good Thanatos; let's see how much you've learned since last time. Remember Alcestis?

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-02 07:04 am (UTC)(link)

[It was with a sigh of relief that he felt her come off untouched, even as the deathgod swayed inexorably forward to come in contact with her despite Herc's indomitable grip- and the hero shifted his stance and arms, seeking to catch Thanatos in a crushing bear hug. It had worked last time, after all- but not this time, as his chilling foe changed his body's movement in response, almost slipping out of the hands of Hercules. Clearly, he had learned a thing or two about wrestling since last time... But Herc was willing to bet he'd learned more.]

Come now, Soul-Taker. You don't really want to do this, do you? She never deserved death, under ordinary circumstances she'd never fall under your purview- and she'd already been rescued once. Can you really tell me, after hearing her husband's song, that you didn't want her set free?

[Prince of Power that he is, Hercules punctuated his attempt at persuasion with a twist of his opponent's arms, working to hook them behind his death's head and interfere with his ability to twist and fight back. Work on as many levels as you can manage, in a fight like this.]
olympic_lion: (You do not speak of a lady that way.)

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-03 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's always been one of his big advantages, down through the millennia; he's NOT too grand for these things, and dragging others down to his level gives Herc the home-field advantage, so to speak.

Yet even so, his opponent's answer took the smile off Herc's face; he didn't like hearing that.]
. I always knew you a strict rule-keeper, Thanatos, but somehow I missed the pettiness. Yet I shouldn't be surprised, it's how the family does things. We do, because we can- and you know what? I'm still freeing her from the lot of you, because I can.

[And THAT'S when the hero headbutted Death square in the face, and commenced his efforts not to hold Death off, but to start twisting him into a f***ing pretzel.]

[Herc can't hear the nymph he's trying to save, something he considers a very good thing; let her grasp her own freedom, it's been denied for far too long.

Him? He'll take advantage of his opponent's dazed state to start stretching and bending his foe's upper limbs in ways an arm's not supposed to move, slapping a hard elbow into Thanatos' already wavering skull when he recovers enough to talk.]
Aye, I'm sure that's true, old boy; neither lock nor bar can deny you, we're all doomed to fall under your rule sooner or later- Of course, I'd count as an exception to that, wouldn't I? I've ascended to Olympus, I could keep this struggle up all day. All month. All decade. {Really okay with slacking off with only HERC'S company all that time, tough guy?]

But then again, I might not have to do that. What if I braided your limbs together, deathgod, then knotted the ends together and started carrying you around everywhere like a satchel? I could show you off to my friends, watch them squeal in envy over my dynamic new accessory- and there's nothing you'd be able to do but wiggle at them and curse impotently. [Braiding... that's not exactly what Herc is doing to Death's arms right now, but it definitely suggests that braiding limbs is a distinct possibility in the near future, doesn't it?]

Are you certain you're this interested in taking a little girl? I'm almost hoping you say yes, for some reason I recently got the urge to start hurting you very badly. [Hint- telling Herc 'it's about power' when you're doing something he doesn't like MIGHT be a bad idea, because odds are good he has more power at hand than you do.

Admittedly, this is all something of a bluff; Hercules can actually understand the consequences of forcing Death to take a holiday even for a day or two, much less decades. Papa Zeus hammered the importance of mortals dying into him long, LONG ago, and the message stuck around-

But he IS a hero, and getting him riled up enough is a good way to find out whether he'll call his own bluff anyway and twist Death into friggin' balloon animal shapes. Something to keep in mind.]

[Step down? Oh NOOOOO, that's not happening any time soon. Stop what he's doing and just hold on, in a rather uncomfortable position for Thanatos? Doable.]. By all means, say on. I'm still willing to hear sweet reason from you, Fetcher of Souls.

[Especially since he can just keep going if he doesn't like the terms offered.

Yet if he knew about his nymphly rescuee's Climactic Moment, he'd surely be yelling at her to just run through already! Didn't she have enough of being one step away from salvation LAST TIME!? He's seen far too many operations fail at the last step, and wouldn't want her revival to be added to the list.]

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-12 06:43 am (UTC)(link)

[A Look returned with interest; Herc TRIED persuading him at first! This could have been done the easy way.]

A year's time, you say? Short enough, for you or me or she- but I expect you to leave her be so long as the bargain remains. She contracts cancer or leukemia or what have you, or should I trace an incident back to your meddling-

Well. I will find you again, and I will be far, FAR more creative about vengeance than I was this day.

[Given how many times Herc's killed someone/seen a friend die due to Dramatic Pauses, he really disapproves of them. Still, he'd be glad to know it finally finished up... even if Eurydice might suddenly be dealing with a host of new sensations.
olympic_lion: (I'm everyone's dope homey.)

Oh, I trust your words to be truth, old boy; it's what you don't say that gets me suspicious, and our crowd always has liked playing with the fine print. If you'll not interfere, then I accept.

[Finally letting go, a firm but this time not punishing clasp of Thanatos' hand was given with a couple shakes for good measure, before taking off surfaceward. Heck, he'll even call out something cheerful to the deathgod over his shoulder as he goes.] Tell you what, next time I need to slay an alien deity I'll bring you along, we'll get some fun out of it!

[After that, though, it was a steady acceleration to try catching Eurydice before it was too late. She may be mortal for the nonce, but there's still no question that a nymph can elude ANYONE in the woods.]

EURYDICE!

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-18 06:30 am (UTC)(link)

[Ah, he'll be fine. Hades knows his nephew's little ways; it's not like Herc hadn't done the exact same thing to Hades right to his face before on multiple occasions. Let's face it, it's pretty awesome being Hercules.

And while he was surely worried for a few moments on coming out, thinking she might just plainly be drunk on actually living and feeling again, losing all track of where she was- well, ballistic nymph-hugs have a way of curing all sorts of concerns that might trouble a demigod's mind. So it's a broad smile and a gentle hug that Eurydice got in return, holding her off the ground with effortless ease.]
Welcome back to the world of the living, milady. It's a very different place now, but seeing you like this makes me certain we did the right thing.

[He'll tell her about the not-very-onerous bargain in a minute. Right now, just give her a moment to revel in newfound freedom to feel.]

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-20 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Let's be fair, lass; your good Orpheus managed to do even better with just a song After all, he didn't have to worry about pursuit, and he didn't wind up making any bargains that lasted beyond that tunnel. [That's something worth getting to in a moment, no?

But first, he'll switch to holding with just one arm, and petting her hair reassuringly.]
Come now, Eurydice, that's nothing to be concerned about. We came out where we should, to be sure- and while I may not know where your beloved might be, we'll just keep looking until we find him, be he Earthbound or elsewhere... though admittedly, there is a lot of elsewhere to look through. Rather little of it should apply to him, though.
olympic_lion: (Of course I'm wonderful. Just ask me!)

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-10-27 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I can't say at all. I've not even met the man, to my recollection- as little as that means. [Because when you've taken hits in the head on a regular basis for three thousand years, the memory starts to get a little fuzzy... And without proper introduction, who's to say he'd even know Orpheus if he met him?

That said, Herc does have an idea to get started.]
I'd have to know how to contact him in order to do that, or at the least know what he'd look at- but why not ask family for help? His family, to be specific.

[And from out of that skimpy minikilt-thing he's wearing, Herc pulls a smartphone. Dialing now, and...] Hello, Olympus Group? This is Hercules. Could you patch me through to one of the bigwigs? I'm trying to locate the Muses.

[He shifted the phone away from his mouth for a moment.] This clever device is letting me chat with someone a thousand miles away!

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-11-01 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
As have many a musician I've met, but who's to say he even calls himself Orpheus anymore? [Was he Mozart, or Bach, or Louie Armstrong? Might have been Freddie Mercury, actually... and minikilts are TOTALLY the height of fashion for Greek demigods this era, thank you! Seriously, who wants to bother with that 'pants' nonsense?

Also, hand over the voice pickup for the moment, he's being transferred.]
The people of this time have an amazing number of wondrous devices, is how; far less spiritual than they used to be, but their worldliness has offered many a remarkable revelatio- oh, there we go. Apollo's office? Oh, no need to bother him directly, I think; I just came back from the Underworld and need to hunt down the Muses. Any chance you'd know where to look? Yes, I can wait.

[Okay, back to Eurydice.] Father set up a grand business called a 'holding corporation' in the mortal world to keep an eye on their progress, which has surely come in handy a couple times- although it had its drawbacks, too. [Such as Hera trying to leverage the Olympus Group into rewriting the universe, but hey, them's the breaks!]
olympic_lion: (Heh. Never said I was perfect!)

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-11-03 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Psh, pants. People just like them because they're popular. ...and have good freedom of movement. ...And offer close protection against the weather. ...And can't be blown up by a chance draft to expose you. But dangit, they don't show you off well at all, and they'll never offer that refreshing breeze that Herc refuses to do without!] Not wanting to be associated with his last adventure? I can understand him not wishing to deal with the mockery of those too cowardly to even consider attempting such a feat. [Life's easier when you're not burdened by the expectations of others, let's face it.]

All too true, I'm afraid- but you'll have the time to learn, I mean to make sure of that. Just so long as you take extra care this upcoming- Ah, yes, thank you! [Yep, he'll just continue his call a little bit further away so as to give her breathing space.]

...Well, that's unfortunate. Does make things tricky, certain- what? And you're sure of that? Well, it's a start. Thank you for your time, you've been most- An autograph? [He chuckled; not very professional of them but who could blame 'em?] Very well, I'll inscribe it the very next time I'm there. Be sure to remind me, now! Farewell. [Click, and away the little device goes again.

After securing it, Herc turned back to his new charge with a gentle smile.]
It's a strange new world, as I said- but there's trees, and friends, and a hunt for your dear husband. I think there's room in this world for your happiness, Eurydice.
olympic_lion: (Hah! An excellent jest)

[personal profile] olympic_lion 2013-11-14 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Herc's opinion of the people who'd rather spitefully point out where the strong man stumbled than actually do something for themselves isn't really suitable for mixed company, and he'd rather spare the nymph's delicate ears- but OH YEAH, he sympathizes with Orpheus on that one.

Coming over to her, he settled down to one knee and took her delicate hands in his brawny battered own.]
It's not the most encouraging start I could hope to offer, things got rather shook up at the place I called after the latest Big Hero Upheaval- but they did offer a beginning, yes. I could confirm that at least one Muse was visiting Mount Parnassus for nostalgia's stake, and surely whichever one it was should be able to direct us further. We'll wish to take care, but that shouldn't be too terrible a trip, no?
