Mmmm, well, I can't complain about the donuts around here! Really appreciate the change of scenery, so here's hoping we can keep ourselves out of trouble for a little while, okay?

So you know a little about my family... What's yours like?

[It's not often someone asks Vash about his family. He pauses with a sort of in-the-headlights look and then curls in on himself a little.]

Well, there's really not much to say.

But I travel a lot. [He says, pulling himself out of the mood with a widening smile.] So I have friends all over the place, and some of them are like family to me. Little cousins, wise Grandmas, crazy Uncles, a bit of everything.

But if you travel alot, your parents must miss you?

I know my uncle would go nuts if I vanished and didn't tell him where I was.

[donutsforlife]

[He makes an abortive noise, rubbing the back of his neck and laughs nervously.]

E-yeah, I guess. [The whole family-thing was never awkward until people started asking about his own family.] It's nice that your Uncle cares so much.

Well, he kind of took me in when things were rough and to be honest, he's not really my uncle. He's actally my grand-uncle.

I'm still not entirely sure what my grandfather really thinks of me.

Still, he took you in. I had a friend who did that for me when I was little.

And he's family, uncle or grand-uncle.

Right.

[She gives a nod.]

You're a pretty cool guy Vash, Has anyone ever told you that?

Kids mostly, but I never heard it from a pretty lady who could turn into a dragon before.

Okay, now you're just teasing.

I wouldn't say I'm anything like that.

[Y-Yeah, she never really knows how to take compliments like that because she doesn't like to think of herself as anything like that especially when she's such a tomboy.]

[Vash has a particular fondness for the tomboys, it's created quite a few problems for him in the past. He's also not the sort to let it stop him.]

I really mean it!

Well that's sweet of you to say Vash, But I don't think I'm anything special.

[Okay, you might have just got her to blush just a little.]

I mean I don't really make an effort or anything to look nice.

[Blushing is like a red flag if encouragement to Vash, and he immediately starts to pull out all his lines. He only uses the ones he means, and he means every one he uses.]

Don't get me wrong, it's nice when a young lady goes through all that trouble but it just says something else when you don't even have to try.

D-Dammit you're making me ship it.

[whitescalesbigmouth]

[Nope, Nope Nope. She can't be hearing this - She doesn't believe she's anything special so why should anyone else? Gah, Vash hurry up and eat the rest of those donuts would you? Saft needs to hide her red cheeks somehow and stuffing her head into an empty box sounds like such a good idea right now.]

Muahaha, Vash's work is done XD

[Vash goes on as if he has no idea what he's doing as he reaches into the box and pulls out the second to last donut. He closes the box though, to hide the fact.]

Oh, hey, last donut. [He breaks the pastry in half and turns to Saft with his best smolder, offering it out.]

...Nerd.

[She chuckles despite herself and takes the half of the donut she was given. It's not like Vash is a total sleezeball trying to get into her pants or anything, He's totally genuine and nice about things which for a change is a great relief.]

You're pretty strange Vash, But I won't lie... You're very sweet too. The kind of person I'd like to be around more often even.

[He only further proves the truth behind that 'nerd' comment as he gives her a big, excited grin when she says she'd like to be around him. An instant later he's adopting a very serious pose, looking at her down his nose a bit.]

Miss Saft, would your Uncle approve of this? [He's trying very hard not to crack a smile.]

Of what? Us being friends?

...He'd freak at first that I got wound up with such a troublesome guy, but I bet if he met you, He'd see all the things I see in you already. He's a great judge of character that way.

[She hasn't quite cottoned onto what Vash is getting at here]

[Ironically that derails his mood briefly, but he recovers quickly. Looks like he'll have to hold off on that suave act until later, he doesn't want to insult her by disrespecting a serious answer.]

Ah, so it runs in the family. [He smiles and then points to a footprint which had been left by her dragon-form.] Does um...can your Uncle?

[Because it's only now registering that if her Uncle can turn into a dragon as well and doesn't like him, he may have some running to do if they ever meet.]

Well yes, All the dragons back home can take on human form. It's a little different for me because I spent my whole life convinced I was completley human, so I had to learn about my dragon heritage the hard way...

And even now I'm still not sure if I'm truly accepted. I guess that's what happens when you're only half-dragon.

My grandfather's the one you should be most worried about, He is the head of the council afterall, and the whole human/dragon relationship is kinda frowned upon big time with him.

Oh. [He rubs the back of his neck, he really does consider himself human but on the rare occasion when he's honest with himself, he remembers that he's not. He debates something for a few moments before smiling shyly. It's still something he doesn't say out loud, because it feels too much like Knives wins when he does.]

I like to think a reasonable conversation might help with that.

It should.

[Oh believe her Vash, Maybe the reason you two have hit it off so well is that in a way you're very alike. Saft even had her very own Knives in her life once. Thankfully, he's now dead and shouldn't be able to make any more of a horrible impact on her life ever again.

Oh and he totally went ballistic and murdered his own wife and Saft's first ever adoptive parental figure so yeah. If you ever feel like opening up to her one day about all your problems etc. Saft will totally get where you're coming from and give you all the hugs you'll need to be able to cope with things.]

He's not as harsh about it as he used to be. I guess when he found out he had a grandaughter living amongst humans he finally decided to do something about it.

[Well no Saft, there's an actual reason he sought you out after a while and you know very well why that was. But she really doesn't want to inform Vash of what actually happened between her and her father. Because it might give the poor guy nightmares for weeks.]

[Vash has nearly 200 years of nightmares, some of the worst are more recent. For the time though, a few less isn't a bad thing.]

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that a little diplomacy goes a long way. [Along with a healthy sense of humor. He gives her a gentle tap in the should with his fist.]

Besides, I never let something like that get in my way. Though that might have something to do with getting into trouble...

Well if you ever need protecting...

[At least you can say you've got a dragon who's got your back? She can totes return the shoulder punch too.]

[He grins and holds his handsin the shape of a gun, pointing it to the sky.]

Likewise, if anyone gives you trouble, just give a holler and I'll be there with an aim so true I can find love and peace in the coldest of hearts.
