From what I have observed, once a mun has latched onto a specific idea, there is little hope of getting them to back down.
Especially if they have decided this idea is ironic or cool or clever in some fashion, such as your bio-luminescence in the face of a city of endless darkness.
Even though it usually isn't clever.
They latch on like a small animal with a toy, and the more you attempt to pull it away from them the more they insist they will never let it go.
If you show disinterest in the concept though, they may find their own motivation lacking.
Though that hasn't worked terribly well in my case.
