I am not sure what you would officially call it, but I work with the paranormal. Namely making sure it doesn't harm or reveal itself to the general public.

You see, because I think some of this stuff should be known to mankind. Whether mankind wants to know about it, however, is an entirely different story.

Seems I had some misinformation. Though I'll be honest, I don't do this for personal reasons. At least not the bit of hiding the existence of ghosts from people. I never did understand that.

It's kind of hard to hide a ghost that doesn't want to be hid. Usually if they want to remain unseen, they do. That's kinda part and parcel of the whole incorporeal thingy they have going on for them.

Sure thing! Where should we begin? Restless spirits and their behaviors, I guess, since we're already on that topic.

That is when you help them pass on. Either find out what is keeping them there or trick them into an exorcism. The problem comes with the irregular spirits.

Alright. Your average spirit doesn't cause too much harm. They're bound for some reason or another. Workaholism is actually one of the more common reasons. They can be violent, but don't tend to kill their victims.

The problem comes when you're dealing with a spirit such as a Liche or a Wraith.

I'd put liches and wraiths into the category of semi-corporeal undead rather than incorporeal spirits, because they actually become corporeal for more than split seconds like things in the poltergeist family tend to do. And those are the more restless, malevolent spirits out of the group. But then again, I have a pretty advanced coding system for most of the stuff I investigate.

And that's really all I do is observe? I can get people into touch with people who are professionals and can actually take care of the stuff that's plaguing them, but I try to stay as hands off as possible with most of the weird thingies that I come across. It gives them less of a reason to get all grudge-y and nasty.

Well I suppose you are right. Whereas a spirit has lost its body the liche and wraith both have a corporeal form. In the case of the Liche I came across its soul was placed into a tree. In the case of the Wraith however it used possession as the primary method of harm.

Its body was in fact the only way to even harm it.

We do have individuals that act in this way too. They access a situation rather than going hands-on and then report back so someone like myself can deal with the situation. Of course there is still some danger in that.

I know! Usually I have it slicked back, but wearing it this way keeps my cowlick from showing too much. It's the give and take of fussy hair, I guess.

Believe me, I know the distinct hell of prominent freaky hair. It was waaaay worse when I was a kid. All you can really do is hope to whatever higher power that's in charge of hair grants you mercy.

Yep. Basically my problem in a nutshell. Mostly I rely on industrial-strength gel, since letting it grow out didn't even help very much. I mean, it kind of did, in places, but the weird just moved elsewhere.

I'm Newt, by the way. Newton if you want to make me think I'm in trouble. Doctor Geiszler if you're one of those people who likes titles, pretty much only my mom calls me 'doctor' though, she's very proud.

And oh man if I could find a gel that worked, I'd kiss the CEO of the company that manufactured it so fast, it'd make them wonder how I got in their office. No such luck for them, yet.

The stuff I use is about 75% effective, maybe a little less, I don't know, you'd have to ask Hermann, he's the numbers guy, I do the squishy stuff.

Biology, I mean, not cooking, I'd probably set something on fire if I tried cooking. I'm pretty sure I could set something on fire just making a sandwich.

But sweet, biology! I dabble in it, personally, but it's more... the weirder end of the spectrum. I spend a lot of time squinting at ectoplasm.

I... You know, I don't know! It's really more or less, "Grow your hair out because you're too busy to keep it short, then part it and let the cowlick do its thing."

See, I've tried that, and I just end up looking like a shaggy dog. Professional-looking hair has never been one of my strong points.
