That's easy for you to say, you've a grand beard of your own.

Aye, that’s kind of you to say but don’t count yourself out. Your Uncle took awhile himself to grow his beard, and I remember he said pretty much the same thing as you did. You’ll just have to be patient.

That's what everyone keeps telling me, but I find it hard to believe. He's always been....Thorin. I could never even imagine him smooth-faced.

You might think that laddie, but he did indeed have as you said been smooth-faced once, but as you get older your beard begins to develop.

It wont be long before you have a beard that even rivals your brothers.

That wasn’t what I meant laddie. He just needs cheering up sometimes, it is not good to dwell on things for to long.

[Kili knew exactly what he was saying. He understood how dark Thorin could get if left to his own thoughts. That's why he and his brother were such good distractions. He could hardly brood if he was busy pulling their arses out of the line of fire]
