Plaits are a badge of honor. We earn them, by not being afraid to go out and put in some effort and get our hands dirty. So what if a little dirt tags along, it's a sign of a good, honest work!

[Fíli's braids are very well-kept, thank-you-very-much. The only time they get to 'unkempt' is when he's been on the road traveling hard, and with good reason!]

A vagabond implies we don't have a home - which we do, we just haven't gotten it back yet. And there's no shame in a bit of dirt. Our people are miners and smiths, good, honest, hard work that takes a bit of getting your hands dirty.

I don't know where this Allemantheia is or who this Valkyon is, and I don't care to know. Anyone who's put in hard work wouldn't look down on another for it showing.

Don't insult my brother and I won't insult you back. You're picking fights you don't want, elf - I had no quarrel with you until you insulted my brother.
