a thankless job
I appreciate the break from Arthur. No, really, pompous man like himself could use a moment of solitude to deflate the ego... But, and yes, there is always a 'but' mundane, you know the man's helpless without me. If he isn't ordering me to shine his armor, muck out his stalls, and clean his room -- both of them dangerously similar, thank you -- he's off pummeling things with a sword!
Things that pummel back.
I know he's... reluctant to express matters of appreciation. Of the heart even-- He's rather dense in fact, but he's not bad. So, figure out what you are planning on doing soon so my break is not a long one.

Have a Cu Chulainn from a different canon?
[This guy should know. He's seen enough examples of Arthur's behavior from his own canon.]
all the canons under one roof.
[Not uncommon to some, really]
Re: all the canons under one roof.
[Mostly due to the insane laws of his canon. In the course of natural history, King Arthur comes after his time and several of Arthur's knights borrowed from his legends.]
He's...well, I can acknowledge his fighting skills, but his personality leaves a lot to be desired. Still, he can't be all bad. This one girl I fancy has taken a liking to him

His manners are a little lacking yeah... and he's pushy. I find anything else from him to be strange though. [He grins] A lot of girls take a liking to him, weirdly enough. The chainmail hides the pudge.

[He snickers.]
Didn't know that. Maybe next time I see him I'll take a quick feel of his stomach.

[A shrug.]
But I'm not nearly as sensitive. Maybe if I jiggle his belly, he'll squawk like one of those dolls?

Nobody beside myself is allowed in his chambers. S'not that I take advantage of the arrangement but I am quite sure he's not. Doing. That.
[Snorting] I think he'd have you locked in the stocks. For a week.

[It's obvious that their beliefs have some...differences.]
What? He doesn't own me. And I'd like to see him wrestle me into a stock.

[under his breath:] That I end up saving. Several times a week.

I do pray you, sir, to tell repeat your last sentence. The one containing a word that starts with "p".
[In other words, did you just call her King/adoptive siblings that she is overprotective of a "prat"?]
no subject
He's my friend. [Hurried:] Most of the time. I said he was a good man after calling him a prat, you know.
no subject
[Her expression softens considerably.]
Friend...? Then, on the part of my sovereign, I would like to thank you for keeping him company. As long as you mind your place and restrain your hands, I think Arthur would be very happy.

I... Gaius, that won't be necessary. I'll just be over here. Looking for Arthur!
no subject
[Have a suspicious look that might be a bit of a smile. He's not convinced.]
Except Arthur isn't over there. Your bed is. Which, reminds me, you need to clean.

I was just thinking that I could advance any powers of premonition I could have by just. Laying down and closing my eyes.
[He doesn't want to say "works for Morgana" because no]
Dreams bring truths Gaius. Isn't that what a wise man said?

Really, Merlin, you must stop messing about. A seer, you are not, and we should all be heartily thankful for that.
no subject
[Shrugging in that dorky way that Merlin manages so well, he doesn't hide the sly grin. Why should he be in denial like the good doctor?]
no subject
[He's still teasing, and finally allows a laugh after giving Merlin his 'stern' look over the top of his glasses.]
Our King is fortunate to have you.

[She nearly drops her jaw at this description. It sounds like her brother Kay.
Why hasn't the Merlin in her game told her the details?]

wow late
[He clearly didn't expect to draw Arthur's attention, at all. He grins, as Merlin is prone to do-- probably at the expense of being called simple from his very noble kingly companion here. Such was the price of feigning NORMAL.]
I'm glad. To see you that is. You don't even seem to have a broken bone. Arthur, I'm proud.
