You're still my favorite, Jim ;_;

You've been putting off reading about Storm for too long and you know it.

I understand, I really do. He did more with my name than I ever did, and it will be far easier to find... ah, canon material to review for him. I appreciate this loyalty you're showing but really... at a certain point it stops being loyalty and it's you being stubborn, no offense.

[You get a 'pot calling the kettle' look]

He seemed like a nice enough kid when I met him. And it's really nice to see you as well, it's harsh to know what you're going through and not be able to help.

[Hey, he took the Captain America name with Steve's permission. Did Johnny Storm ever ask you for your name, Jim? HUH?]

He's not half the Torch you are. [Like you really expect him to say otherwise.] Hey, things could be worse. Have been worse. I think Tom still misses you, though.

[He was kinda- you know, undisposed. And he'd have said yes okok]

But he's double the human, so it evens out. [He's allowed to joke.] Ah- yes, that I have noticed. You're taking care of each other, aren't you?

But half the man. [Hey, he spent most of his teen years trying to make Jim - plus Steve and Namor - see him as an equal.] Yeah, I'm lookin' out for Hotfoot.

I feel better, knowing you two will take care of each other... but I still wish I was there to actually help you.

Hey, someone's gotta. And... I kind of wish you were still here, too. But at the same time, I don't, things have pretty well gone to hell.

If you're trying to make an old man feel better about not being there you're doing a bad job. Define 'hell?

Nah, Jim, it hasn't been as bad as it could be. Val's been broken since the last big battle so we're sort of... living week to week again.

You shouldn't encourage her. [He doesn't want her to move further away from him than she already has.]

No one can force these things. She likes fire- she likes our kind, it was just a matter of time.

I haven't gone anywhere, have I? Which means I still have her interest.

[He's not their kind. Toro barely knows him. Why does Jim have to be right?]

She only brings you out when it's convenient as it is. Next she'll just...trade you in for the newer model. [Toro might have a sore sport about all of that.]

[He's not glaring, but it's a close thing.] We aren't real to them, we're only a pastime- but even then they care about us. They learn about us. I thought I taught you to trust people to do the right thing first.

[Go ahead and glare. It doesn't change how he feels, no matter how right Jim is.]

Times were different back then, Jim. I trust these people to go out of their way to hurt us when they can. They enjoy it.

[And now he is glaring, but a completely different reason.]

Is that what your mundane is doing to you? Are you- are you hurt?

Jim! Johnny's a great guy. He's just...Johnny.

Besides, it's not like me being totally amazing keeps Namor from being awesome.

[Yes, all Sub-Mariners have enormous egos. Some of them are just cute about it.]

[A smile for her. It's been a while.] I don't think Namor could stop you from being, ah 'totally amazing' even if he wanted to. But I agree, there can simply be two torches and it doesn't make any of us less than the other.

[Brace yourself, Jim. You're getting a hug.]

But it's not like you couldn't stand to be a little stuck-up. Might do you some good.

[Still a little awkward when it comes to social interaction since he got "reseted", so Nita only gets an arm around her and a little back-pat. At least he's trying.]

It's really not in my nature, I always believed in stepping out for the new generation.

Hey, even I have to admit you fought like twice as many Nazis as I ever did.

Don't tell anyone, but whenever I take on some of those swastika'd creeps like Red Skull or something? I think of it as 'doing things Hammond-style.'

[A startled laugh] That's quite the honor. I hope you don't have to 'Hammond it up' often nowadays, those should be a thing of the past.

I fought for my country, you fight for the whole planet. The universe son. Sometimes more than one at the same time. It is my honor that you took my name, and I'm sure miss mundane will have fun reading your stories.

[A sly grin.] Oh don't get me wrong, I know I do it best- but you did it first. I picked up this nickname to honor you, after all.

But it's pretty amazing how many Nazis keep showing up outta nowhere. It's like the universe wants to make sure there's always a crowd you can have a guilt-free beatdown on.

[A grin. Jim doesn't usually show off but a little teasing never hurt, right?] You might get a fair amount of Nazis to punch but I killed the original one.

There are some things only the originals do.

[Hey, Johnny don't mind! A chance to see the human side of Hammond is a rare and much-appreciated treat for him.

Not that it's going to stop him from being a smart-ass, of course.] You know, between the time travel, the shapeshifters, and your fellow original constantly trying to claim my sister 'In the name of Atlantis! IMPERIUS REX!!!' ever since I found him, that claim might not apply nearly as much as you'd think.

Not that I'm trying to steal your heat or anything, big guy. [He folded his hands nonchalantly behind his head, leaning back in a relaxed pose... that involved letting off just enough flame from below to let him hover in midair, really selling that exaggerated casualness.]

[Johnny's imitation of Namor startles another laugh out of him. Apparently torches vs Namor will always be a thing somehow.] Don't take it personal, he always had a thing for impossible ladies- or dames I fancied, as well.

Storm, God knows you've created your own very bright heat, literally speaking. You have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, well, glad to hear Namor's always been a pain in the ass, I guess. Though I don't see how that makes it any better.

Mister Hammond... Jim. [Even he had to force himself on calling his predecessor so informally, but he managed.] I appreciate what you're saying, but do I really look like I'm in need of validation? Trust me, I've got no need to recognize how awesome I am, I'm fully aware- though it is nice when everybody else cops to it as well. [Yeah, just a bit of a smile there.]

I'm not thinking about 'measuring up', I'm thinking about dragging you along on the next trip to the Negative Zone or something. There's so much wonder in the universe you deserve to see... and let's face it, against two Torches, what baddie could have a chance? [~~Thanos, Blastaar, Ego the Living Planet, friggin' DOOM...~~ best not to complete the mental checklist.]

But before that, I'd been thinking I'd like to see how you fly. Could be I'd learn something, could be I would teach... either way I'd showboat like crazy, but why fly at all if you don't have fun with it?

[There's that cocky grin again, as the flames started to creep up his body.] C'mon, big guy; care to strut your stuff?

[To Jim's credit he doesn't flame on.

...Okay he does a bit, but it's only a faint flame in his hands and he makes it go away easily.]

Peggy. It's- it is nice to see you.

You remembered.

[The smile says she is very pleased to see you, Jim. Flames and all.}

Of course I did.

[He looks down at his hands, playing with a little flame between his fingers like one would with a coin]

If 'watching my son and his friend suffer while I can't do anything about it' and 'catching dust in a headspace' well then yes, I suppose I have.

Have you been alright?

[His fire tricks always made her smile, this time is no exception.]

If they are still in that place then my prayers are with them. I'm quite happy to be anywhere or nowhere than back there.

The lady behind me seems to have some ideas to send me places though, she seems to think I've recovered enough.

They are, and I wish I could go there as well. Watching me die wasn't easy on them, but I'm sure my mundane had her reasons.

[He tilts his head] I hope they will not be dangerous?

None quite so bad as there, she's decided that was an ill fit for both of us. I'm rather thankful for that myself, so I am hopeful if I do go somewhere it will be less ... like that place.

And you? [Her had laid gently to his arm, avoiding ay places that might be on fire of course.] Are there plans for you as well?

[He shakes his head, reaching to squeeze her hand with his own. Don't worry Peggy, no fire to be seen.]

Not really, my mundane decided to focus on her studies. She had to let go of some of us, which I understand.

Perhaps when she's settled in...

[Oh Jim, you are the one good thing she remembers from that place.]

Perhaps if neither of us have permanent places to be those behind us will see fit to let us spend time together elsewhere. I hear that there are such places to do so.

[He frowns, tilting his head. He's heard of places outside of the games too and God know he misses simply talking to Peggy. Spending some time with her after all those months would feel like a dream. But he can't help but worry.]

Are you sure those places are safe? I'd hate it if you got in trouble.

It's sweet of you to worry, but I am fully capable of taking care of myself. I think you knew a version of me who was just as capable. At any rate I don't take undue chances. If you like I could see if the mun would look around, find us something less drastic than most.
