Especially since the mun decided that finding a new Hades to play off of (She means cast Blizzaga on) would be too dangerous. [As if it wasn't the first half dozen times she did it.]

They eat people's Hearts, solve problems...well, mine, anyway. They're creepy little shits though. Wanna see?

[And the need to show off has reared it's Darkness-infected head again. Maya should spend more time working on her art and less time being a creeper.]

[He doesn't have a heart, what does he care.]

[Maya flicks a finger and a portal made of Darkness opens in the floor. She watches the ripples move and frowns as nothing emerges.]

Well, shit. Hey! I know you're in there, you'd better get out here when I call!

[Because yes Maya, yelling at them will always work. It does this time at least, as one of the 'creepy little shits' slides out of the portal and over to her, cocking it's head to the side to stare at the Demon. It doesn't seem all that interested after a moment, and turns back to her. Maya reaches down and pets an antennae.]

No Heart, huh?

[He steps back from the portal, tilting his head curiously and watching it move.]

Maybe it's sleeping.

[He watches the little critter, not understanding what it is.]

Nope. None of those pesky squishy human bits. Inside I'm all hollow.

So what is this thing?

If I'm not careful, I might end up like that someday. Hollow. [For her, 'someday' is a long way away, and nothing to worry about now.]

This is a Heartless Shadow. It's a physical manifestation of the Darkness in people's Hearts. They're attracted to it, you see, and they eat the Hearts, which spawns more of the suckers.

[Maya gives the one by her side another pat, and watches as it scurries back to the portal, disappearing.]

It's not that bad. Getting shot doesn't hurt that bad, you're lightweight, don't bleed as much. I recommend it.

They eat darkness?

Hmm, think it doesn't like me.

[Maya grins a bit.]

Think I'll try to avoid that as long as I can, thanks.

Yeah, as long as it's in a Heart. Well, no Heart, no dinner.

Darkness only in a heart huh? That's pretty specific. And what do you get out of the deal?

[She shrugs.]

I didn't make the rules. Well, I can call them, for instance. And make portals I can travel through. I had to work hard for both of them, and you need to make sure you don't get so caught up that you lose your Heart yourself.

[Another motion of her hand and a portal of swirling Darkness appears in front of her. She rubs her arms for a second - never gotten used to the cold - before stepping through it. The portal disappears, only to pop up about three feet behind the Demon. Maya steps out and lets the portal close.]

[Except not really.]

[Because if he was summoned through a portal daily he'd be pretty cranky. He turns and tilts his head at her.]

Well that's a useful trick. I assume you can go further than a few feet.

[Maya raises an eyebrow and gestures at an empty space on the floor.]

Seen any? [Implied in that question is, 'Do you want to?']

Yeah pretty recently. Did you know there are worlds almost purely made out of light or darkness?

It's working out fairly well for me. Besides, it's not like this is all I'll ever be doing.

[Because it's not. She promised herself she'd do it just long enough to get Geoffrey back. That's all. So it's taken longer than she thought, big deal. Not like she has a life waiting for her back home.]

[The anger isn't really making her worry. She can defend herself if she needs to. Kinda hoping she won't have to, though.]

If nothing else you shouldn't be pulling it out like parlor trick unless you somehow have access to a lot of pure light if things turn sour.

[That kind of stops her, just for a second. Ever since she quite literally fell into this mess, no one's ever told her that. Well, except the voice in the back of her head, but she was able to squash that pretty easily most of the time.]

I can handle it. Where would I get access to pure light anyway? Just find one of those worlds and scoop some up?

[Sarcasm, she has it. Maya frowns and straightens a little. She hates it when people think she's not capable of something. Her parents drove it home all the time. Listening to them, you'd think it was a wonder she's still breathing. Maybe it is.]

I wouldn't recommend trying to touch the light but if you find a door to the world and open it well some of the light escapes and quickly.

[Angeline had her own sarcasm and parental problems but she has a certain problem when it comes to heartless.]

It's not like I'm saying you're weak or anything but the more you use that darkness the more it starts to get to you. Maybe it'll start effecting your body or maybe your mind but either way it isn't pretty when it gets a foothold.

So I'm just suggesting you be careful with how you use it if you ever want to reach whatever goal you have with using it.

[She opens her mouth for a retort before pausing and shutting it with a snap. You couldn't exactly say that she'd always been this way. Oh, it had a foothold in her mind all right, but she ignored it like so many other truths. Safer that way. After a second she shrugs.]

Maybe I'll try and keep an eye on it.

Yeah, in case you're wondering why it was a cult. Sure it was the established "Church of Light" pretty popular but behind closed doors they were in love with the idea of using the darkness. The leader was using everyone to increase his own power. Of course after the initial swarm unwilling heartless came right after.

[She frowns.]

Everyone finds out too little too late and when shit hit the fan the powers that be decided I was prime world-saving material.

[That was how she tended to see it, anyway. First they were there, and then they weren't. And the next thing she knew, she was lying on her back on cobblestone with her head bleeding.]
