Fury's not all bad, but he doesn't have the greatest people skills and the kid needed someone to keep an eye on him as much as he needed someone who had his back.  Nat's great, too, but they're the same kind of people.  They'll get caught up in all their shadowy pasts if you give 'em half the chance.  

...Don't really know if I did any good in the end.  Not like he ever really listened to me.  Stupid freaking kid.

Always seemed a little silly to me to begin with, it's all basically one team. Practically everyone's an Avenger these days anyway, one way or another.
