Apparently, professors take a dim view of procrastination and late hours - who knew?
You worked some on my app. Would you like a prize for that meager amount of writing? What did I say about excuses or extensions? No, you spent your weekend working on some fanvid instead of writing that app. Do you really consider that a wise use of time? I mean, sure, writing an application for a fictional character in a roleplaying game isn't exactly going to put money in the bank but at least it involves writing and researching. I can appreciate that. This, this 'fanvidding' of yours, though? Repeatedly blasting the same song in you ears for hours on end so you can match up clips is just ridiculous. Get me into a game and then you can do whatever you want with your free time.
Speaking of free time - free time is not considered 5am. Go. To. BED. And don't even start with me on what I did as a college student. I'm not one anymore and neither are you. Sleep. NOW.

Take 2. This time hopefully without the life-induced-dropping...
xD No worries
But, yeah, she's completely and totally obsessing. She already had a personal stake in championing rights for persons with disabilities, especially mental and learning disabilities, and now she has me as her sort of poster child - someone she can relate to. [He shrugs.] She's an odd one but I'm hardly in a position to make judgments about what is normal. [smirk]
Huzzah.
Who doesn't love a bit of fawning? It's good for the ego and the skin. But I know what you mean. Being put up on that pedestal...
[She sighs. Such a burden to bear.
After a beat she drops the dramatics, getting serious.]
Honestly? I think there are worse reasons to be the object of someone's obsession. Looks, talent, being generally awesome are all pretty typical, but it seems that your mun thinks you stand for something important. A puppet could do a lot worse.
If these two ever ended up in a game together I could see there being fireworks xD
Good for the skin? Now that's one I haven't heard before.
[Medicated and properly counseled, Daniel talking to women who don't know about his issues and who are not one of his students and twenty years younger than him seems to equal a bit of a flirt. Call it his 'inner bad boy musician' coming out a little.
He pauses before continuing, sighing as well.]
Eeh, she's a lawyer with an ax to grind regarding the treatment of the mentally ill and disabled. I know I could do a lot worse in terms of a mun. However, and these are her words, "It doesn't hurt that you're hot and generally awesome." She's just as shallow as everyone else around here in most respects. [smirk]
Well, Donna likes to think she causes fireworks wherever she goes, so... =P
[She manages to look genuinely surprised, as if everyone should know these things. Then she shrugs, the smallest of smirks betraying her charade of innocence.
It transforms into a knowing smile as he explains more about his mun.]
Ah, a lawyer on a mission. Now, that is something I am more than a little familiar with, so just be glad that your mun is tolerable, because you're probably stuck with her.
[She gives him a brief look that says she knows what she's talking about then waves a dismissive hand and grins.] Shallow or honest? Who's to say they're not two sides of the same coin? Besides, trying to label it gets in the way of enjoying the actual fawning.
no subject
[ Sarcasm and lots of it - the truth is he looks more like a bum sometimes than a university professor and doctor. However, he tends to pull off the look well and has a certain amount of roguish charm that covers a multitude of sins. ]
I never said I enjoyed the fawning. I just said I don't mind it.
[
He'd probably enjoy it more if it were coming from a certain FBI agent but he's not going to go there - nope. Not happening.]no subject
[She smirks, her expression saying 'riiight', a little good-natured sarcasm of her own, but she'll leave it at that.
And her mun is well aware that Daniel's Converse and worn t-shirts look is delectably disheveled.]You, sir, are far more accepting than some of your museling peers, that's for sure. I've got a few headmates that have been knocking around for years and still think there's some way of escape.
[She shrugs, obviously far more accepting of her lot in this whole thing. Then she fixes him with a look that says she doesn't quite believe what she's hearing.
Ah, Kate. She fawns in secret. That or she's completely devoid of sight and hormones.]So you don't enjoy the fawning? Either they're doing it all wrong, or you're not a typical representative of the male half of our species.
no subject
I plead the Fifth.
[ He shrugs. ]
She's been chomping at the bit to let me out but restrained herself until the end of the first season - and making sure my show got renewed. She's going to try and send me to a place where books and computers talk to people and you talk back. I'm not thrilled by this game premise.
[
For more than a few reasons...]I-I just mean it's not terrible. I just - I don't need it. It complicates my life and my life is complicated enough as it is.
[ And now he's starting to flail a little. Women pinning him down on his thoughts regarding the opposite sex ranks high up there on the list of things that will start Daniel looking for a door to escape. Unfortunately for him, his mun has no intention of letting him get away so easily since he obviously has some issues with self-image.
And she enjoys torturing him. And, oh my God, fake out kiss in part one of the finale was hot - fess up, Daniel, and go after her like you wanna.]no subject
Uh-huh.
[She doesn't interrupt as he flails, watching him with a carefully selected expression that says she's both patient and amused. He reminds her a bit of the puppy when he's freaking out.]
That sounds familiar. Something about ducks in the title, right? [She ponders that just a moment before going on.] You're right about that not being so terrible. There are worse places. Mine had me reserved somewhere but she got a timely cold that made her miss the actual application process. Mores the pity.
[Obviously, she is overwrought with disappointment.]
But seeing as it's pretty clear that this game doesn't exactly make you giddy, you could always try and talk her into somewhere else. Though, again, typically you'd be left with worse places. Horror islands, sex islands, islands that drift...[She pulls a face.] These people really like islands.
[ooc: I was all 'did he jus--he did. Go Daniel, you sly dog, you.' but that's also when I started thinking, 'damn this is all in his head, isn't it?' Still pretty awesome though.]THIS ICON IS APPROPRIATE GIVEN THAT HORNY GIRL WAS ALL OVER HIM AT THE TIME
Yes. The duck place. She has a bunch of other characters in that game and says I'll like it there. I don't have to leave my world. I just - the prospect of hearing random voices and seeing random people is a little unnerving.
[ And might make him question if the new meds are actually working still or not.
He listens as she lists off the worse places and then he gets a bit of the 'deer in headlights' look.]
Sex islands?
[
OOC: I know, right? I was bouncing back and forth all episode with whether or not it was real and then when that happened I was like, "Oh, man that is well-acted and wait... there is no way this is real." But it should be interesting going forward if he gives much thought to some of the things he thought about when he was hallucinating.]Aha. If he doesn't want horny co-eds falling into his lap he should be less adorable.
I can see that being discombobulating but not having to leave home is a big plus. I imagine it'd be nice not to have to go through the whole who, what, when, and where deal the second you come to. Because you almost never arrive in these places conscious.
[His reaction is...several things. Kind of funny, kind of endearing. Kind of Catholic school marm. Her lips quirk up on one side.]
Yes, sex islands. Last I heard there were a few, all of them with the same premise: do it or die.
Not exactly my idea of a romantic island getaway.
[ooc: ...Yeah, let's pretend this isn't the 5 millionth time I've edited/posted this, k? K/ So...Yeah. He'll get there one day. And I am going to miss Natalie. The doc is cool and all, but I liked Natalie.]Indeed xD
When you put it like that... I guess it's not so bad.
[ Hey now - he's no pure individual by a long sort. He just - he's more self-conscious now than he was as a kid for plenty of good reasons and a few not so good ones. Crowds, people touching him - more things for the list of things that will make Daniel look for the nearest exit and RUN. ]
'Do it or die'?
[ As a man who studies the brain this premise is interesting in terms of how it reflects the human desire for certain stimulation. As a man who has severe self-image problems and is body conscious the premise is terrifying to him. There were only a few people who were welcome in his physical space and even fewer allowed into his emotional space. ]
Nor is it mine.
[
OOC: No worries. xD And same here - I just hope they keep Caroline as a friend and not a love interest because I've become quite the Daniel/Kate shipper just not yet for them - let the UST stretch out.]Fff, I almost tagged him with the wrong journal
[She says this almost sagely, as if she's seen some things in her day, though she's only been around a matter of months and never been in a game. But she's Donna. She knows.
She nods as he repeats her words.]
Pretty much sums it all up. There's a goddess or gods or whatever, and you either make like bunnies within the predetermined time frame or...[She makes a slicing type noise and draws a finger across her own throat but pauses when it's half way across.]
Actually, in the one that comes to mind you're choked, but you get the idea.
[He had more chemistry with Natalie than Caroline, lol. But I'm trying to reserve shipping preferences until season two. No matter how adorable his crush on Kate is.]That might have been confusing /snerk
Choked? Why do I think that is some reference to auto-erotic asphyxiation?
[ Oh, the brain doctor nerd comes out as that is the first thing that jumps to mind. ]
[
Oh, most certainly! I just - his crush on Kate is adorable and tragic at the same time and I'm a sucker for relationships like that. xD]Fair, freckled & redheaded to mocha skinned brunette? Might've caused some headscratching.
[She scrunches her nose slightly and nods.] I know, that's what comes to mind every time. With a side of some serious dom/sub preferences, considering none of her captives are there willingly. That Atia chick must be one kinky bitch.
Then again, I guess you'd have to be to run a sex island and call it worship. That or seriously, seriously repressed.
[Maybe the doc'll soften up a bit next season. She was so stiff--character, not actress. I know exactly what you mean about Kate and Daniel. Tragic = interesting. Who wants a ship without quirks?]Just a smidge
Yeah... that's what that was but he's going to do his best now to forget he thought that and soldier on with his conversation here. Of course, he has been quiet for awhile at this point so it is obvious he was thinking over something. ]
You know... a lot of about these islands. Have you... been?
[I hope so. She has potential and I'm glad she was real so it wasn't like a replay of Monk or something with her being dead. I just - I can't let go. I'LL NEVER LET GO. Mainly because I'm a dirty ol' woman and the older, scruffy genius and the younger woman thing is a big "YES" button for me. LOL! If I scare you, I apologize in advance.]no subject
Donna waits quietly as he works through whatever it is he's working through in his head, trying to decide whether the pause is due to discomfort with the topic or something else entirely.
She goes with it being a mixture of both and figures she can maybe back off the dramatics a little bit.]
Me? No. Never been in any game, actually. [She ignores her mun's insistent declaration of "yet".] But knowing is kind of my thing.
[Me too. I want to like her, because she has Natalie's face but we'll see how that goes. And yes, poor Monk. Forever scared by the death of Trudy. I scared since ep one that Natalie was dead. Glad she wasn't.
Haha. You have now been dubbed Rose in my head. And nah. Takes a good bit to scare me. But I do wonder...Any chance you were a GSR fan back in the day?
no subject
Ah. [ pauses ] Your thing?
[O RLY? Why is that? And nope, I wasn't - never really got into the CSI fandom.]no subject
She nods, holds out her hand as if they haven't just spent the past however many minutes discussing the peculiarities of sex islands.]
I'm Donna. I know everything. Pleasure to meet you.
[Because you'll never let go. Titanic instantly comes to mind. And good, then I'd be scared. The went a bit mad after a while...]no subject
He takes her offered hand and raises his eyebrows again. ]
I'm Daniel. I don't know everything. I act like I do sometimes but I don't.
[OHHHHHHHHHHH! DERP. Don't mind me. And hopefully my ship does not hit a damn iceberg.
I heard some about the CSI madness from friends back in the day. I just - kept my distance. xD]
no subject
She grins at his introduction.]
Well, that's okay. If we both knew everything, it'd be a pretty boring conversation.
[Heh, yeah, let's hope not. That'd be unpleasant for all parties involved.
You are a smart woman. It was my first tv fandom though, so I saw a lot of it first hand. Blood in the water, dude. Blood in the water.]
Your icon there? Brought this comment on. xD
[ And it is at that point at his gaze wanders and wow - nice shirt. And chest. Yup, that's a nice rack.
All that talk of kinky sex earlier - ugh, it's as bad as when Stimulus Package girl was at her peak and then he was forced to go to that stupid gala. And he wasn't even going to THINK about Lewicki -
And of course he just did. Dammit. Brain bleach. There will never be enough. ]
Rotf. Oops. Be glad it wasn't a gif? I'm a straight chick and get distracted every time
[She nods with a faux somberness that changes into amusement once more as she sees his gaze shift.
He's off in his own head again, and she settles in to see how long the trip will be this time. People watching is a hobby of hers, after all.
The look gains some wryness as she sees what looks to be distaste or some other such emotion cross his face after a beat or two. Both brows lift as she cocks her head to look at him expectantly.]
Not dumb, but definitely distracted. What's on your mind, slick? I'm trying to decide whether or not I should be offended.
He may be crazy from the neck up but from the waist down he is perfectly healthy LOL
[ Don't mind him. ]
Oh. Nothing. Nothing. For some reason a rather unpleasant memory of me walking in on my teaching assistant getting his... [ air quotes ] freak on with one of my students surfaced in my mind. I didn't witness the act itself but it was more than enough seeing him running around my kitchen in his boxers and socks and her in nothing but a bed sheet.
[ Hey, it was part of the truth. ]
[Everyone BUT Daniel gets laid in that episode. xD]Love that scene. And yet another reason I'm gonna miss Natalie (*if* she gone for good).
[The use of air quotes had gotten a quirk of a grin, and she had let the expectant look fade into a the smile. Explanation accepted.
So, tell me professor--and it is professor, right?--does cleavage usually make you think of your TAs exploits or was this just a one time thing?
[Or not accepted. At this point, she may be attempting to induce flailing intentionally. There's definite mischief in her gaze, though she keeps both words and expression completely casual.]
[I dunno man. All systems were go with madam benefactor and Daniel didn't seem too displeased at the prospect.]no subject
[Smirk. It is entirely possibly he is taking a moment to savor his own joke and her reaction to it.]
Yes - professor... and doctor.
[His cheeky demeanor evaporates.]
God, I hope it's a one time thing. Otherwise, you have just ruined breasts forever for me.
[Very true. I wish we had gotten a little more info on that just because I would have liked to see Daniel 'play his cards right'.]no subject
That explains his access to your kitchen, but still not why he didn't pick a better place. Like the library. That's what you do in college.
[She gives a nod of recognition at the revelation that he's a doctor but whatever she would have said is cut off as she laughs outright and shakes her head.]
Oh no. You will not be blaming me for ruining breasts for you. That was all your doing, Danny boy.
[You know how writers are. They're a bunch of teases. So it's up to us to decide.]no subject
[beat]
At least I hope it was going on in his room. If it happened anywhere else...
[scowl]
He and I are going to have a talk about this later.
My doing? Oh, no. No, no, no, no. I would never do such a cruel thing to myself.
[Oddly enough, all that comes out completely serious. Daniel IS serious. Breasts are serious business. Just because he is usually withdrawn and quiet outside the classroom didn't mean he didn't have a healthy appreciation for the fairer sex. That was the upside to having been 'normal' for the majority of his teen years - he got some time to fully appreciate women. Now? Anymore? If he believed in God he might as well sign up for the priesthood.]
[Yessss... Although, I tend to fall on the side of being mean to Daniel and imagining his fail at all things related to sex most of the time. xD]no subject
Poor kid. Should've just chosen the library. It's usually a good idea to stick with the classics.
[Donna is shaking her head before he's even finished talking.]
Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Those were your thoughts that jumped on that train. [she crosses her hands in front of her, similar to a referee calling an out at the plate and and then raises as if backing away from the whole thing.] I had nothing to do with it.
[Heh. Poor Daniel, no nookie for him.]no subject
[Daniel gives her a frustrated look. Rather like the look a child gives when they can't get their way. It might be endearing or aggravating depending on how she feels about men who are pushing 50 acting like 10-year-olds. Just sayin'.]
Lady, you have no idea what kind of stuff I have rolling around in my head. That one? With Lewicki? Ranks high on the list of stuff I wish I could wipe away the memory of. Your cleavage helped bring it back up. Ergo - your fault.
[Flawless logic]
[Never - I just see someone getting annoyed with his quirks and finally putting their hands up and saying, "That's it. Bangin' you ain't worth the hassle!" Daniel would end up sabotaging all his chances at nookie.]no subject
[It takes a lot to aggravate Donna. Besides she sees men behaving like children every day, just get Harvey and Louis in a room together. So, she merely gives her head yet another shake, ever patient.]
Not a clue, you're right. But I do know it's a good thing you decided to become a doctor instead of a lawyer, because that argument would never hold up in court.
My cleavage and I were sitting here minding our own business. I didn't make you look, I don't control your thoughts, and I don't even known this Lewicki. Three strikes. You're out.
[So now I want to see this happen on screen at least once. I mean, I'd feel bad for him, but...]no subject
Wait. So your cleavage is now its own entity?
[See? I put the idea in your head. Muwahahahahaha! Daniel - failing at getting laid LIEK A BOSS. Also? This conversation between Donna and Daniel - I don't even know and I claim no responsibility for it. LOL!!!]no subject
If they can be assigned blame for something, why not?
[She lifts a brow, challenging him to say otherwise. Nevermind she doesn't actually believe it herself.]
[It's a pretty awesome idea. Now, if only you could plant it in one of the writers' heads. That'd be way more effective. And yeah, they're weird. It amuses me that he was flustered when talking about the sex island but her cleavage is fair game.]no subject
So what do you do for a living?
[I do what I can. And I think it has to do with body parts - body parts he can mock and converse about. But sex? Sex, for him now, involves a closeness he hasn't been comfortable with in a long time. My headcanon - take it for what it's worth.]no subject
Well, I work as a legal secretary at a firm in New York. But I think most people would agree that what I do is be awesome. It's worked pretty well for me so far.
[Makes sense. Especially since Donna here is a stranger. Still funny though. They just had an 8 tag conversation about her boobs.]
