From one clone trooper to another

How does that matter?

It matters quite a bit. Despite our armor, Imperial stormtroopers are highly varied. [Upright, armored hands at the small of the back, reciting:]

Early Imperial stormtroopers are Kamino-produced clones of Jango Fett, with a specific mindset and various strengths and weaknesses. Within a year their ranks were supplemented by Spaarti cylinder-produced clones of the same man, with inferior training.

Not long after that, men besides Jango began to be cloned, largely due to individual merit but sometimes for other reasons. Within a few years the ranks opened to enlisted men, who had lives before the service. Grand Admiral Thrawn's Empire of the Hand has a stormtrooper corps which is open to any who wish to enlist, no matter the species or sex.

Even clones can vary between individuals. Through merit we advance in rank and may be assigned to different units, some of which are more prestigious than others. I could be a woman or a nonhuman. I could be the Alderaanian trooper that the Rebel Princess Leia was once forced to work with. I could be a member of the Hand of Judgment, an informal unit that deserted due to conflict with the Imperial Security Bureau.

To outsiders we appear all the same, and we are trained to the same level, but we are far more diverse than we appear. Those are two of our strengths.

We have many strengths. There exists the misconception that we are subpar soldiers, but Imperial stormtroopers are the most highly trained warriors in the Empire. There have been accounts of others who have been dressed in our armor and sent into battle and did poorly, but they were not stormtroopers.

We are not interchangeable; this is why my assigned mundane must choose.

What kind do you want to be?

I will be who and what I am required to be. Given the choice, however, I would prefer to be part of Aurek-Seven.

[An integrated unit known for a) being amazingly competent and b) being moral and entirely able to think for themselves. They worked with Luke Skywalker once, and saved his life.]

[Cream of the crop! But I like competent stormtroopers in general, and they're more common than they seem at first glance.]

That is the hope. In part it depends on whether my mundane plans to use this journal - considering the username, it would be a waste not to.

It would be. Maybe you'll be many kinds depending on where you go.

If that's how she wants me to serve, I will serve as such. Hopefully she will not get confused.

At one point we were. All Imperial stormtroopers were clones at the foundation of the Empire, but the ranks became more integrated over the years.

Technically, sir, human clones are not terribly uncommon, though most of them are referred to as identical twins.

Yeah, identical twins aren't the same thing. At least, where I come from, they aren't.

I'll venture, sir, that it depends on the situation and what your mundane desires to play. As it does with mine.

[Older philosophical stormtrooper with a sense of justice willing to pursue it at the expense of his career, or younger leader-y stormtrooper with a sense of justice and even more willingness to pursue it... decisions, decisions.]
