[Chuck is sitting numbly on the edge of his couch, subconsciously curled into Himself. The bottle of vodka and his eyes red from crying speak more than any words ever could. For a long time, he doesn't say anything.

He's horrified. Absolutely horrified.]

This is it. [His voice is very small.] I gotta go back.

You don't have to tell me, okay? I already know. [He gets up and starts pacing, looking dead-eyed and voice ringing with exhaustion.] I can't stay in this- this game. It's not about me or my issues anymore, it's about why the fuck I'm not- I'm not fixing it at home. The fact that I'm so far up my own ass that I let the last good son suffer even worse than death.

And for what? To prove a point about- about deserving to live? For the sake of narrative convenience, or trying to go for a world record in deadbeat dickery?

They're gonna fix the Core... and I'm gonna fix it. [Shaking his head, dragging his hands over His face.] I can't leave him there.

[...Oh, honey. There's no hiding how he crumbles just a little at the question, in that uniquely parental way. It's a strange thing to see on the Almighty. It's human.]

[Normally Michael wouldn't dare question Him but...he's hurt and angry because God has done so much for Castiel already and done so little for the rest of them. To hear something like that just fuels that. His shifts his gaze up, attempting to reign in those semi-foreign feelings but fails - the sharp tone of his voice evidence of that.]

You turn Your back on the rest of us suffering and dying but the moment Castiel needs You it becomes 'the final straw'. Do the rest of us mean so little to You, Father?

[Chuck honestly doesn't have the energy to respond to this with all of the vigor and heart it deserves. He just gives His son a profoundly, bone-achingly tired look.]

No. But... I think I think more clearly about him. He's a microcosm of my love and... my cruelty. It's easier to see.

[Once again he feels overlooked by the Father he loves so much and it aches. Pushing that ache down is something he can do, it's something he knows how to do all too well.]

Why? Why not anyone else?

[There's a big part of him that doesn't want to hear the answer, that wants to just seriously flee from this conversation and from God.]

[There's a very, very long silence.]
