I see. So you have a desire to play me, but no concrete plans. I can respect your interest, though I find the name you've picked for me to be in poor taste.

[Still smiling, she's warming to the subject, nodding along with what Richard says.]

Yeah. They should have come to see us sooner, especially Asbel.

But we'll tell them. Then they won't forget.

Hm. That's right. We will have to punish them for it. Especially Asbel.

[Tapping his chin thoughtfully, then flipping his hair and smiling.] We can decide appropriate penance later. To make sure they don't forget again.

We should be sure to enjoy our time together. Since Asbel isn't here, I will do my best to educate you in everything important. Now, I wonder if I can find my old adventure novels for you...?

Yeah, okay. [Okay, Richard's royalty, right? And that's really important, right? So he's gotta know what to do to make them remember!

...But wait. Educate...? She tilts her head slightly, curious at what he means.]

Adventure novels? What are they like?

They are.... Well you enjoy flower books, right Sophie? Adventure novels are the sorts of thing I would read when I was young. They can be very exciting.

[Though now that he thinks of it, maybe something girlier would fit Sophie? He will have to investigate the book options for girls.]

Though perhaps, on second thought, you would prefer some other kind of novel.

[This whole being responsible for a young woman, even one like Sophie, is rather complicated, isn't it?]

Very exciting... So do adventure books really have adventures in them? [She sounds absolutely awed at the idea. Adventures, you say??]

What... other kinds are there?

[It's okay, Richard, at least you probably won't forget to make sure she bathes. Probably.]

[Richard chuckles.]

Well, not quite like the ones we go on. They're only stories about adventure. But when I was young I would pretend to be in the stories.

[He'll make sure she bathes and eats and everything!]

There are a lot of different stories. As many as you can imagine probably.

Pretend... to be in the stories? Because they were exciting?

[Now she stops to think for a moment, head tilted slightly.]

Richard, can we read all the different kinds of stories? I want to... see what they're like.

Partly, yes.

[And because the people in the stories weren't leading his life. Everyone needs escapism, and Richard was desperate for something as a kid. He taps his finger to his lips at Sophie's question.]

Some stories are sad. But I think it would be really fun to read all the different kinds of happy stories with you, Sophie. It could be our own kind of adventure.

[Sophie doesn't really get it that well, but she nods. She understands at least part of it. So she continues to listen intently to Richard, laying one hand on her chest.]

Sad stories... So we shouldn't read those?

[But wait! The mention of their own kind of adventure... That has her smiling again.]

Yeah... We could do that. It'd be our adventure. We can read a lot of happy stories.

That's right. I do not think reading the sad ones would be worthwhile.

[He smiles, tilting his head.]

I think I like the sound of that. It would be our adventure together. We can read stories... And yes, eat crablettes.

[Sorry, Richard, did you say something else about stories and adventures and what not? It was all instantly forgotten as soon as you said the magic word.

Her smile widens.]

Yes... Crablettes. We can have lots of crablettes.

You like crablettes too, right? Everyone should like crablettes.

Crablettes...

Ah ha ha...

[Oh dear what has he done?!]

Um, well, yes. I have nothing against crablettes...

[She just can't even begin to fathom someone not loving them as much as she does. She continues to look blissfully content.]

So you like them too, right? They're really good...

I can share some of them with you.

That's alright. You can have them. Don't eat too many though.

Really? You don't want any at all?

[That's okay, more crablettes for her. And there's no such thing as too many of them!! But that does make her wonder one thing.]

What's your favorite food, Richard? Mine is crablettes.

I think you will enjoy them more.

I am quite a fan of natto on toast. Though miso soup is delicious as well, and apples. Perhaps we should have a feast of all of them.

I've never had those.

[Oh, noooo, suggesting new foods to a picky eater. Maybe this will be the adventure... Even so, she can't help but be enthusiastic about everything Richard's suggesting.]

A feast? Okay, we're gonna have lots of food. And when the others find us, we can have their favorite foods, too.

[Pauses for a few moments.] And crablettes.

[Not just any new foods, but fermented soybeans that only Richard and Pascal seem to appreciate. But oh well.]

This sounds like an excellent idea, Sophie!

[But he's getting into it.]

It will be like a welcome party.

[She will try it and spit it back out, Richard, you'll see.]

I've never been to a party before. Do we just need the food? What else do we need for a welcome party?

[It all sounds very! Exciting!!]

[No one understands the awesomeness of natto on toast!]

Hm. [Very serious thinking pose.] The royal banquets were always terribly formal. Something like that would be no good. Food, and... Games maybe. I am really not sure what kind of party we would throw.

We will have to give this serious thought.

[Crablettes and toast would be better anyway!]

Serious thought. [Another nod.] Okay. We're gonna have to give it serious thought.

[And a little pause before...] But I think we should have the games.

We can research what kind of things people do at parties and decide from there, but games do sound fun.

What kind of games do you like, Sophie?

[Okay, so she hasn't had much chance to play many games either, but one in particular sticks in her mind...]

Hide-and-seek. We can play hide-and-seek at the party.

[This is a very serious matter, clearly.]

[Richard at least likes the idea.]

That is an excellent idea. We'll make Asbel be it, and then he will have to find everyone.
