It seems that I am having the obvious pointed out to me tonight. I must thank you, such a simple solution is elegant and mutually beneficial. It may be worrying to have such a vague fate looming, but rather than focus on what I do not know, countering with my own idea does seem to be the best solution.

I'm being made to say this, so don't take it to mean I care, but attempts to make things brighter tend to give them a very specific kind of darkness. You might be safer just letting her go for it.

Sure, but if you think you might be sick, does pretending you're not make it go away? No. It makes it grow, like an intestinal worm or an alien egg, feeding off all that fake brightness you're trying to force. The illness gets worse and worse until it bursts out of your appendix the way mental breakdowns burst out of the later seasons of Scrubs, and then, instead of living through a few awkward visits to the doctor and getting saddled with heavy medical bills, you're dead and getting a crappy unplanned ninth season. You want to fake and deny your way through the darkness until it finally takes you over? Fight her on this. You want to get a happy ending as payoff for facing up to the darkness and working through it? Let her do what she wants.
