Lot'uv heavy stuff that past week. You sure Echo didn't hear any of it? I'll admit, that wasn't what I'd expect from a Jedi, but if what he said was true, then I can't blame'im for it.

Especially not after...

[Fives shakes his head.]

-well anyway, what's all this about now? A recruitin' mission? Don't know if any'uv our brothers would want to go to a place like this. Sure, a break from th' fighting's nice, but we are still soldiers.

I don't know that any Jedi appearing would make that Kanan guy feel any better about things though. Not that it wouldn't, you know, be nice seein' some familiar faces. Ones that don't shove your brother off of a bridge.

... shoved off a bridge? [Luke shakes his head, frowning.] Is he all right?

Yeah, he's fine. Th' guy that shoved him off was thoughtful enough to tie a cable around'is feet before doin' so.

[There's a flat-eyed look to go with that.]

That doesn't... I'm guessing he wasn't exactly in on it was he?

[Really doesn't sound like it, and while pranks don't have to be mean-spirited, this sounds unpleasant either way.]

No, he wasn't. Both'uv us were in th' middle of trying to evacuate someone to a safe zone in th' middle of a missile attack. Didn't realize th' guy in question had a thing against clones.

While you were--- [Dragging a hand through his hair, Luke sighed.]

Not that he should've done it at all, but that put someone else at risk, too! I hope no one got hurt.

[That seemed like a rather bad situation to act out your grudges. He might not like imperials or stormtroopers, but in a situation like that, if they weren't the ones shooting at him, far better to let them be.]

[The clone shakes his head.]

Agreed, he shouldn't have. At th' very least, it was just us two and him, but maybe if it weren't, he wouldn't have risked it. No one got hurt then, fortunately.

Sounds like that's mostly from luck though.

[Even if Ben said he didn't believe in luck. Luke's not so sure it doesn't exist, even with the Force around.]

I'm glad no one got hurt, but... [He shakes his head, frowning still.] Did he think he was in danger, or something?

Heh, yeah. Echo's been havin' a bad bout'uv that since he got to th' city.

[He chuckles dryly at that, brief as it is. The next brings some sobering reminders, none that he really wants to get into detail about.]

...that's about what it sums up to. So I guess I can't blame him for actin' in defense, but it's not something I care'ta have a repeat of, either.

Ah. [Luke smiles a little; he'd been wondering if that might have been it, he remembers talking to Echo.] Hopefully he gets better luck soon.

[Hard to miss that slight darkening, and that there's obviously history there, but curious or not, he's not going to ask.]

No, probably not, but if he had the time to tie a rope before he shoved Echo off the bridge, then he could probably have done something else entirely...

[At least in Luke's opinion.]

Hopefully. [Fives smirks slightly.] You know 'im?

Ah, well he didn't exactly tie a rope there. It was already there by th' bridge. That city's as strange as they come. Wasn't rope either, some kind of stretchy line. Why anyone would have somethin' like that attached to a bridge is beyond me.

Talked a bit to him earlier, here. ['Here' was accompanied by Luke waving a hand around, a little vaguely.]

Great. [Frowning again, Luke crossed his arms.] That does sound pretty weird, though, but it's a good thing it was there at all.

Ah, I see.

[He nods.]

Don't know if it was a good or bad thing, myself. Maybe if it wasn't there, Kanan wouldn'uv pulled that stunt. Well, whatever. No one got hurt, we've mostly patched things up. Just have to move on.

Not that he should've done it either way... [Then Luke shakes his head and smiles dryly.] But that's easy for me to say.

The important thing is that no one got hurt. It's good he got there so you both have company.

[Another smile, brighter this time.]

Well, yeah. [The clone chuckles.] I'm in agreement though.

[There's a grin at that.]

It's nice havin' a familiar face around- er, well, another familiar face.

[Luke's not sure if he should laugh or not, but it slips out.]

Well, I think just 'a' familiar face counts. You're different, after all, even if you look the same.

[But even there they'd clearly done some work to not look exactly the same, as much as that was possible.]

Too bad most people don't think that way.

[Some of their brothers seem to go to the extremes when it comes to finding a look that suits them. Fives is fine with what he's got, no need to bleach his hair or anything here!]

They're wrong, though. [Sobering up, Luke shakes his head.] But you already know that, obviously.

Don't see why they'd think anything else, if they just talked with you.

[He's only talked with Echo and Fives, of course, but the differences are quite obvious.]

[His lips twitch into a crooked smile.]

Not many get th' chance to talk to us, and others don't care to. People want to be as far from the war as possible, and most don't see us as anything more than weapons to do it.

...an' then others say we're nothin' more than fleshy battle droids.

I guess you don't get much chance to be off the battlefield.

[Which is a depressing thought. There might be some similarities to the Rebellion, but that's sort of from necessity.

The last few sentences, though, has Luke frowning.]

People aren't weapons, and while there's nothing wrong with droids, we aren't that either.

[Of course, Luke has no idea how a battle-droid acts or works compared with more regular ones - he hasn't seen any in his life.]

We're an army that's been mass-produced for th' Republic. I can see how people those conclusions, but I know my brothers an' I breathe, think and live like anyone else. We know our duties, we'll die if we have to, but that's not th' point of our fighting.

Those tinnies can just keep on comin', you shoot 'em down and another squad takes their place. The Seps don't seem to care how many they lose so long as they end up victorious in th' end. I hope th' Republic doesn't see us that way.

Hard to protect what you're fighting for if you're dead.

[Luke smiles faintly and nods. Sure, sometimes, in the months after Yavin, it hadn't felt like he could even do that - protect - even while he was flying missions, but dying would've made sure he really couldn't have.]

That's awful. [but it sort of makes him think of TIE fighters and their lack of shields, life support and hyperdrive...] I hope they don't, no.

Heh. True enough. Thankfully th' Jedi at least seem to care about us in that respect. Most'uv us are glad to serve under them.

[Oh, right, the Jedi Knights had fought in the war... it was hard to remember that when that seemed to be something Aunt Beru had downplayed. Not to talk about what the official history had to say about the Clone Wars and the Jedi.

He almost wants to ask, but, no.]

The Force is pretty helpful with that, really. I'm not particularly good yet, but you feel just like anyone else does.

[Then he smiles.]

And talking to you and Echo it's obvious you're your own and not the same.

Oh yeah? You training to become a Jedi, then?

Lot'uv that stuff is beyond me, but enough's happened that I'm not about to discount the power of this Force, seein' the Jedi in action.

[Fives grins back.]

Well, good to hear it from someone. Don't think I caught your name. I'm Fives.

Kind of. [Luke smiles half-heartedly and shrugs.] Trying, anyway.

[And he keeps either losing or leaving his intended teachers behind...]

I'd say it'd be pretty hard to deny something that's right in front of your face, but I have a friend who manages pretty well.
