[The last word's enunciated with a tone of disgust, which she tries to pass off as her not wanting Mabel to interact with him, but truthfully, the tone's directed towards the mention of her father. In fact, she'd be lying if she said she wasn't amused by Mabel's insult - not that it's unwarranted. Of course, she can't blatantly express her feelings of her family to Mabel; she had been off doing her own thing at the party and therefore had no idea about the events that had taken place, and even though she didn't agree with it, she did have a family name to uphold. She's certain that her father wouldn't be pleased (an understatement, really) if she showed any impression other than what they displayed in public - and that was a risk she didn't want to take, despite her recent rebellion.

So, she does what she does best - up the confidence, show no hesitance, and maintain the public image. After all, she's a Northwest, and Northwests always have to be perfect.]
