Everyone loves me at some point in my lives.

Are you going to say something nice?

[In her lives? Okay.]

Then you must get a lot of love.

You strike me as a colorful character. A sense of style, a little off-beat. Very much your own woman. Not a lot of people can say that.

[missybehaving]

Oh. I do.

Not a lot of people can. Can you? [If he's feeling like something under a microscope, it would hardly be uncalled for.]

[He very definitely is, and it's making him squirm a little. Seth encounters close scrutiny often enough - the people he works for could tear most anybody open with a glance - but something about this woman is especially unnerving.

It's intriguing, really.] No, I can't. I'm not a woman. [He shrugs at the lackadaisical joke, and his expression doesn't change.]

Anyway, I'm not very remarkable at all. I'm more of a background sort of guy.

[missybehaving]

I've always appreciated the background men. They get things done while I get all the attention.

[She smiles. She does mean it about the background guys, though.]

What sort of background?

[holdtheelevator]

Publicity, mostly. So it's actually my job to make sure you're getting all the attention. Making sure it's the right kind, too. You want people to get the story the way you want it told.

[missybehaving]

Well, of course I do. [And she's always been quite good at that.] I've always excelled at presentation. Everyone says. [Admittedly they tend to say it in an accusing tone of voice.]

[holdtheelevator]

I wouldn't doubt it. You're very... I'd say 'striking.' [And off-putting, but most people with strong personalities are.] I'm not sure anyone could miss it. If I were a betting man, I'd wager you handle your own publicity just fine.

[missybehaving]

[That's what the hypnosis is for.] Thank you. It's important to me. And terribly useful.

[holdtheelevator]

[Yeah, well, that would... Hypnosis? People ('people'?) can actually do that? He's seen people who come close to hypnotic, but practising the real thing? That'd probably come in handy.]

Sounds like it.

So what's a woman like you need to publicize herself for, anyway? I mean, what is it a you do?

[missybehaving]

[It wears off, unfortunately. And then you're betrayed. Which is usually when the Doctor shows up and makes it terribly inconvenient.]

A bit of this and that. Politics. My own company. That sort of thing. [Universal Domination is usually one or the other.]

[holdtheelevator]

[Betrayal seems to be painfully commonplace in any part of the galaxy, alas.]

That's a little vague. [Seth smiles, but he's not about to push the issue. With individuals of her, er, dynamism, he's found it's best not to pry too far.] But impressive. I guess you're just a woman of many talents.

[missybehaving]

I prefer 'broad' because it's more the truth. [She shrugged.] I have been many things for many people. And always talented.

[holdtheelevator]

I can admire that. I've never been a fan of nailing yourself to one thing. Keep your options open, and you can find a place anywhere. [Or make one for yourself.] You never know what you'll learn.

[missybehaving]

That's what we want, don't we. A place? [She's talking more introspectively, now. But she's back.] And you never stop learning.

[holdtheelevator]

I guess. Temporarily. [He's not been good with holding a place for long, but sure, there's always some security in finding that new place, hoping maybe it's one that won't turn into a disappointment.] I don't mind a little placelessness, myself. It's a way of making sure you don't miss anything.

[missybehaving]

Geographically, of course! [She waves her hand vaguely.] I was speaking more… metaphysically.

[holdtheelevator]

Now you're going over my head. [Not really. But he smiles, keeps his face a little blank. If there's anything he's learned from years of political work, it's the art of empty expressions.] What do you mean?

[missybehaving]

Hm! If I could just tell you, then it wouldn't be very metaphysical would it? A place of absolute certainty, maybe.

[holdtheelevator]

Like I said, metaphysics is beyond me. I can't tell whether something's metaphysical or not. Must've skipped that day of class. [He shrugs, thinks.]

Have you ever been certain about anything?

[missybehaving]

Generally, if you can't define it, you call it metaphysical.

Quite frequently. [That she was better than everyone else, for the most part.]

[holdtheelevator]

There's my lesson for the day. Maybe I'll toss it into the next press briefing. [Because that would end well.]

What about absolute certainty?

[missybehaving]

If you can pull it off. [She smirked.

And shrugged.] Well, a few times, sure.

I can be surprisingly competent when I put my mind to it. Besides, it'd be fun watching the jackals scratch their heads over it.
