On returning not-crushes; Canon is To The Moon
So Eva's back, huh? I'm not surprised. She probably just got caught up in work or something.
...What? You think I missed her? You're kidding, right? I was glad to be rid of her nagging. I had all the time in the world to slack off on patient reports with her gone. Plus, work breaks were a lot more fun when I didn't have to explain ever single Dr. Who plotline before I could even hit play! I told her she'd get it after a couple episodes...
Okay, yeah, fine. It was a little quiet, but everyone needs the peace once in a while. I was long overdue for some me time.
[Neil adjusts his glasses so the reflective lens are hiding his eyes. There. No way anyone will notice the touch of happiness underneath his exasperated frown.]

Just tell me you didn't lose them, Neil. Or use them as kamehameha fodder.
Since you're having such a good time without me -- [ Eva folds her arms against her chest with a very slight shrug of her shoulders, turning on her heel to glance off in the distance. ] -- Maybe I should just get back to work? I'll just take those reports and be on my way?
[ The doctor purses her lips as to obscure her grin.
If he won't admit to missing her, then she doesn't have to return the favor.
Not that she actually missed him, or this, or anything, really. Truly. Maybe a little. ]

Hm... are those the reports you asked me to finish forever ago, or forever ago? Because I recall two different piles of hideously late papers.
[He rolls his eyes, handing over a large pile of them.]
See? Not lost. Not kamehameha fodder. You need to learn to trust me once in a while.
[He seems to stiffen as he passes the reports over though. As snarky as he is, he can't just let Eva go back to work after god knows how long without them. So though he continues to grin, he's just a little bit scared.]
Hey! You can't just ditch me now! We're partners. We're supposed to work together. Besides, there's enough people here that need help from us, don't you think?
[There are other people with his mun that miss Eva, you know...]

Besides, it's excuse enough to linger. It's been too long, and she can feel the smile she fights to hide slipping to her lips as Neil grins, a hint of uncertainty seeming to colour his gaze. ]
Trust you? Hm. Maybe I could manage that, if you try and get your reports turned in a little closer to being on time. [ In all actuality, the scientist trusts him with her life, but that seems go unsaid, some unspoken truth that they both know but can't quite bring themselves to convey.
So instead she reaches to lightly shove at his shoulder, laughing softly now as her head tilts. ]
Did you really think I was leaving again? That if I had a choice, I'd go?
[ An honest inquiry, no sarcasm behind it. ]

He smirks a little more as she smiles back. That was probably the part he missed most. No matter how stupid he was acting, Eva always managed to smile... and god, her smile was gorgeous.]
Well, maybe I'll just be a little late next time, instead of hopelessly late, okay? Besides, it's how I actually handle the procedure that's more important than some stupid journal entry of how it went. 'Dear Diary, today an old man got to go to Greece! And then he died.'
[He dodges out of the way, chuckling lightly as the worry starts to fade from his eyes. He shakes his head.]
Nah. I knew you missed me too much to ditch again.
