So what're you dragging me out here for? I mean, it's nice to have a break from all the training. They're a lot tougher on me in the Winter. [ He gives a bit of a smile. ] But I'm gonna kick ass once I'm in the military; I'll be the best soldier ever. You'll see.

I used to smoke. Been clean for about a year now... I quit because of my wife.

[Raiden reaches out to offer the carton to David]

If you wish to be the greatest of soldiers, then you should dismiss that unnecessary toy and resume your training ASAP.

[ Raises an eyebrow at him. ]

I'm taking a break, come on! Besides, music helps me focus.

Music also distracts you from your surroundings, and makes it easier for you to be sneaked up on.

... What's an iPod? [ Furrows his brow. ] The Walkman just came out like... five years ago.

That's not possible. The Walkman came out in the eighties. The year is 2014 now.

Well if it was lit, it probably wouldn't be very good for you.

I mean, how old are you? I'm sure those things weren't meant to be used by kids.

Didn't really lose 'em. I just get passed around so much I'm used to it.

[ He picks up the pack he was given by Raiden and tosses it to the kid. ] Help yourself, man.

I didn't even get the luxury of Foster parents. Mine were killed when I was very young and I was brought up by a guy called Solidus Snake. [Raiden took the cigarette and nodded.]

Not yet. Right now I'm still just a cadet. But they'll probably let me enlist early at the end of the year.
