On (Finally) Being New and Family & Friends

Well that was a while, wasn't it? Not that I mind you being little Lockheed on here, though I couldn't trust that O'Grady fellow to swing a kite. And that Nyssa seems like a good girl, reminds me a bit of Meggan really. So now we're here, what exactly? I'm sure there are plenty of Avengers and X-Men to converse and save the day with, but I don't think you've seen any Betsys yet have you? Or dear Meggan for that matter. I know it's likely to be a little disappointing, but I'm sure we'll cope. Kitty and Kurt are bound to be about here, and I know you're as fond of them as I am.

Merlyn? Possibly, depends on what skin the fellow happens to be guised in. Wisdom if he's in fair mood. And our Excalibur or MI-13 chums. James Jaspers? I bloody hope not. Or Slaymaster or the Fury or Morgan Le Fay for that matter. In any case, long as you supply me with enough tea and interesting experiences I shalln't be too picky where you steer me to. Where I can do the best good, ideally.

I think my mundane's excitement over seeing you is almost as great as my own. [She smiles.] You should be careful about being so compliant with them though, Brian. Most of these places they send us to are quite unpleasant places.

Betsy! [Sod who may be watching, you're getting a hug sis. Whatever has transpired between them in the past, Brian will always have a soft spot for his sibling.] I'm glad to have done so, my own is equally joyed.

Given the range of places you and I have visited between us, Betsy, I can't see anywhere as unpleasant as the worst of them. Though I have been proven wrong before. I hope your own mundane is treating you well?

[She's quite happy to have the hug herself and squeezes him tightly in return. It's been far too long since she's seen her brother.] I'm glad to have brought some joy to them as well.

[She pulls back from the hug and shrugs slightly.] It's certainly one of the more unpleasant places I've had the displeasure of being sent to. As for how my mundane treats me...it's as well as she treats any of the others here. She's not quite as bad as Mojo, at least there is that. Has yours treated you well?

[His smile widens at the tight embrace. He likes to forget about the things which might have on occasion divided them and just be brother and sister. Abeit with super powers and magic swords and body swaps and katanas.] Good to hear, I think my Mun is very fond of you and likes to see us together, so I'm glad that I got to proven wrong about something. Just have to track the missus, Kitty and Kurt, hey?

Well if she causes you any real trouble and you think you could do with a hand, you let me know, alright? For the most part, yes. Kind of awkward but over in a certain place he has me in a serious romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy. Which is nice for that subset of me since I don't know Meggan over there but, still. Long as I don't feel like I'm running through Murder World and Arcade's loops I should be alright.

[She likes to forget that now and then as well. It's difficult sometimes considering all that happened, but she'd much prefer to just remember that he's her brother no matter what.] Good luck finding them. I think I've spotted a Kitty and Kurt or two, but I'm afraid I've never seen a Meggan, except here with me inside my mundane's head.

[She chuckles.] The offer is appreciated, Brian, but I've found there's little we can do in resistance to them. [She arches an eyebrow] Gwen Stacy? How...interesting. [She's just not going to ask.] I'm sure you'll be fine no matter what, you're strong. Does your mun intend to send you somewhere else?

[He'd be happy to know she feels that way. Bros and Sis shouldn't be fighting, especially when they're pretty much the only family they have now. He's not going to talk about Jamie in front of her.] That's unfortunate about Meggan, the girl deserves to be out there in my opinion. Would be nice to see the other ex-Excalibur members though. My own fellow has a Lockheed flapping about somewhere, you might run into him at some point.

Sadly so, they seem fairly harmless though. I've got your back if you want me in any case. Ah, yes, interesting. But that's possibile realities for you.

I'm not sure yet, he's sort of new about here, tiptoeing about with an increasing number of us. Must be a major Whovian since he has quite a few of that camp as well as in our neck of the woods. If you had any suggestions I'd take them to heart.

[She's never going to bring up Jamie if she can help it. She has enough shame and guilt there to hide forever.] I agree. Meggan is far too much of a free spirit to be kept locked up anywhere.

[She smiles.] It's...very nice to hear you have my back.[It means the world to her to hear that, actually.]

tartarusnet. For the most part it's an unpleasant place where a mad goddess has decided to punish us for the sins we've committed. [And heaven knows she has plenty of those.] Occasionally I feel it's a bit like Mojoworld.

[As does Brian, losing Jamie to madness and death twice in one lifetime was one of the hardest things he's had to cope with, tied with the sudden disappearance of his wife during M-Day.] Meggan is never the type to be cooped up for long. Wherever she is, I'm sure she's fine. If she's needed she'll be here with me in a flash.

I just want to make sure you never feel like you're alone. I know you have the X-Men too but family is family, after all. I always have your room ready at the Manor.

That sounds utterly horrible! I'll have to see if the Mun is able to help keep you company. We should have to burden our sins alone.

[Their lives are basically made of suck, all the time.] I hope that holds true for you. [She happens to like Meggan quite a lot, she's good for her brother.]

You have no idea how much that means to me. I was afraid...[no, she doesn't want to admit that she was afraid their relationship might be beyond repair. That'd ruin the mood completely.] I was afraid you were very unhappy with me.

Horrible might be a bit of an understatement when it comes to describing the place. Let your mun know that both my mun and I would be very happy to see you there. Though, it's not a place you belong. [Someday Betsy will be less emo, someday.]

[Well there is the wealth and stunning wife in Brian's case but yes, often there is suckage. And Meggan is wonderful - smart, playful, beautiful however she looks and a constant companion and friend. Occasionaly Kurt fancying aside.]

Well we've had our moments, but ultimately you're my sister and I'm your brother. I can say I always approve of what you do, but that isn't going to stop me caring for you, sis. [And here, have another quick hug.]

[Brian has often lamented over there being places Betsy goes where he can't follow if she needed him. And hopefully so, he does miss the more fun Betsy of youth at times.] Even so, if you and Jean-Philip need my help, I should at least have my mun give it consideration. I suppose he might always send the Dragon too.

[Congratulations, Brian, that statement has earned you a much more intense hug from your sister.] And I can't say I always approve of what you do either. But we are family, first and foremost. [Except when she chooses to rescue horrible scoundrels, but there's no need to discuss that ever. She misses her fun self sometimes too. She's trying to be more fun lately, it's just a slow process. ]

I hope your mun will consider it. I know it's horridly selfish of me, but I'd be happy to see you.

Why would that be selfish? I mean it's occasionally selfish of me to wish your were with me and MI-13 more, but I know you have an important role to play with the X-Men, even if Scott and Logan happen to be acting like somewhat bratty children right now. [Not to mention some darker choices on both sides. Brian tries to stay netural, he's respectful of both men though after Xavier and the Phoenix Five... well he and Betsy were on opposite ends there too. Was rather glad he didn't run into her as it happens at the time.]

It's selfish because it's a very horrid place, one where I wouldn't want you to be necessarily. It's a place that tends to like to torture people in utterly awful ways. [She's mildly curious about what he means specifically by Logan and Scott acting like children. They're always like children, so what does he mean this time?] The both of them are always children.

[ooc: Awesome! I hope you do consider it! Hmm, I had actually never thought of Gemma Chan, but looking her up she looks like she'd fit pretty well! I've never seen her anything though.

[occ: I will! She's something of a rising star, was in Sherlock and Flesh Meat over in Blighty and I think she was in Doctor Who once as well. She's Chinese-British rather than Japanese-British but her accent is exactly how I envisioned Betsy to speak, for the most part. And then I see Dan Stevens for Brian, Clive Owen for Pete Wisdom, Emilia Clarke as Meggan etc. Basically got an Excalibur flick sorted in my head for casting. ;) ]

I want you to be safe, so I can handle some mental torturing if it helps my sis. Well, yes of course, but ever since the Schism and the Phoenix Five...

[ooc: I am curious to look up how her voice sounds! I think I'll do so! An Excalibur movie would be saw awesome. I think Emilia would be cute as Meggan!]

You'll find it rather difficult to keep me safe all of the time if you do end up there. [She frowns.] The Schism certainly did make matters worse. I've yet to experience the Phoenix Five...from what I've heard I should be quite grateful for that.

[ooc: I know she varies but her nautral accent is pretty much sound English, I figure writers vary over how character sound at time, always grated me how I played X-Men: Destiny and Pixie didn't have a Welsh accent. I know, I've seen pics of her as the girl from Game of Thrones so I know she can pull otherworldly beauty off down well. I would love Fox to do a Captain Britain and Excalibur flick, yes. Not quite sure where the rights to Brian lie atm.]

I'll just do what I can. As I said my Mun also has Lockheed to hand, I doubt Kitty would mind me taking the Dragon if it were for a good cause. It's tricky for me to know who I side with, if either of them. Yes, I think you can considered fortunate there, I was the frontside with the Phoenix and whilst I respect how much the X-Men value it more than a lot of the Avengers did... well, you were fortunate, leave it at that.

Oh, hello, Brian. [And he'll pause here for dramatic effect, and to see whether or not Captain Britain knows who he is.]

It's been a long time. How's the family?

Fantomex. [The tone is cool because yes, his Mun has read most of Uncanny X-Force and so Brian remembers agreeing to have the fellow executed for the sake of the multiverse and Wee Apocalypse murdering back in Otherworld, which being rather taken with the guy Betsy and X-Force wasn't so keen on. Brian doesn't want to anymore. So he manages to smile. Coolly.]

I suppose it has. And either dead, insane and dead or happening to be a purple haired ninja, so one out of three is good. Or were we talking about the non-blood relations? Because Meggan's fine. Wisdom's fine. MI-13 and company are fine, mostly. Merlyn's probably skipping dimensions as we speak, and the CB Corps aren't wanting you dead any more. I think.

How's the mother? You have a mother, yes?

I like that last bit, Brian, and I suppose I should thank you for it. [Should, yes. He should.]

And she is, I believe they say, "in a better place now", thank you for asking. [Only not really.] As is Jamie. [And for just a moment, his voice softens somewhat.] I am sorry about that.

You certainly should, yes. I know you're an exceptionally gifted man, Jean. But I would have hated to see the mess of all the Corps trying to bring you in again.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was certain that... [And that name quietens him, the merest flash of anger before weariness appears on his features.] Thank you. I've... I've forgiven Betsy. Hopefully she's forgiven both me and herself too. Just... I've had to watch him fall to madness and die. Twice.

I can't tell whether that was meant as a compliment or not.

I believe she knows it was necessary. He may have been your brother, but trillions of people across trillions of worlds...well, it's unfathomable, really, but also a tad more important. [Because while it's creepy to think about, he does sort of have siblings. They just...sort of reside in his head.] It can't have been easy, and I wouldn't try to envision how it must've felt. I imagine the only thing worse would be seeing to the deed yourself.

Seventy percent of one, yes. I'd just envision what was left of you after you'd kill a dozen of the weaker members, would be rather of a lose-lose situation for us both.

I know what had to be done, just don't expect me to like it. I've killed people who deserved it before but...

Of course it bloody wasn't. In a way we both took the burden of murdering our brother. I... [Long intake of breath as his glare softens.] ...well, I thank you for your concern, Jean.

[He doesn't say anything for a moment, taking in Brian's words. He's a little surprised Brian respects his abilities enough to not want to risk his people.]

Have you now? I wonder if Elizabeth feels the same.

[He doesn't tend to trust Fantomex - hell there have been times he didn't particularly trust Betsy - but he does respect what he can do. If not what he has done as a result. He might not like X-Force but he knows the values ot it. And the consequences.]

Ask her about Slaymaster, then you'll know the answer.

I just might. [Fantomex respects Brian as well, though he wonders about how well his morals will interfere with Elizabeth's chosen path at this point. He does harbor a bit of resentment for the man, but he understands why Brian did what he did. It's very possible he is a dangerous anomaly.]

I wonder, Brian. Does your mundane have any plans?

[Brian always felt that, even if the reasons why were pretty clear, that Betsy seemed to gravitate to him too quickly following what happened to poor Warren. Coupled with the nature of what he is and the extreme measures he and X-Force took to deal with Apocal... Evan. Though he has done some good things and of course he knows Betsy cares for the man. He just hopes the influences won't cause her to follow down darker places than she is right now. Slaymaster proves he could kill and feel completely at ease with putting down the bastard, but it's not something Brian constantly believes in as morally sound.]

I think he's still a little uncertain. Betsy tells me she's in some sort of hellish place, I thought me and Lockheed could lend her a hand. Or I might decide to find somewhere suitably heroic. As long as there's tea.

Well, I can assure you there's tea. Elizabeth and I have seen to that. [A beat, and he looks thoughtful. While outwardly mocking in every way heroics of all sorts, professing himself a thief and a mercenary, et cetera, Fantomex has always secretly admired the heroes of the world.

Yes, even Brian.]

And there's certainly room for heroics. You can't very well leave all the self-sacrifice to the cajun, can you?

Excellent, then you can expect me a forthwith as I can manage. I wish I could bring Meggan, she's quite knowledged in, well, those sort of places, but I'm not especially sure where the missus is at the moment.

Gambit, good lord no, is that what you're counting on? What about the Avengers or Fantastic Four?

Oh, I'm sure she's about somewhere. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Neither are present. Our only hope lies in Gambit. A terrifying thought, isn't it?

She's my wife, Jean, husbands tend to worry when they're not about. But I know she'll be safe. Meggan might be dazzling beautiful but she's also as tough as rock when she wants to be.

Not my first choice for a last resort, no. I shall have to intervene, it seems.

Oh, do they? Please, forgive my ignorance.

I'm sure Elizabeth would love to see you.

Not to worry, if you ever do tie the knot with someone, whether that's Betsy or not, I think you'll be more likely to understand.

Oh, so you don't know! Yes, we're about to see another Muslim Super Heroine in the ranks of heroes across the pond as the new Ms Marvel, I figured you might like to meet her at some point. She's a Polymorph I gather.
