I truly don't mean to complain. After all the effort you've put forth throwing together this journal together, I wouldn't want any of it to go to waste. But, I do have some very important duties to attend to. Halloween is only a few weeks away, and there's already so many decisions to be made! Costumes, decorations, music, all sorts of things. And while I certainly don't doubt the Mayor's capabilities, it just wouldn't be a proper celebration without me.

In fact, you seem quite busy yourself, come to think of it. You've got an education to look forward to! No time to be spent fooling around with games and the like. Although I'd certainly be lying if I said I didn't do the same when I was your age.

Hmm. Perhaps this would be a nice change of pace. I'm certain things can't completely fall apart while I'm gone, can they?

[Jack's no stranger to screams, but this is one of those times where he doesn't actually intend to frighten people. As such, he kneels down to eye level with Courage, attempting to look as pleasant and nonthreatening as possible.]

Now now, calm yourself! I don't mean you any harm.

[It's...somewhat working. Jack doesn't seem all that threatening now, and it wouldn't be the first time something terrifying was friendly. Still shaking Courage offers his paw for a handshake]

[He reaches over and wraps his bony fingers around Courage's paw, giving a single firm shake before pulling away.]

[Okay, so he didn't try to eat his brain or steal his soul? That's good, very good actually. Courage let's out a relieved sigh, and offers a laugh and a smile.]

[He smiles back, which is strange considering his complete lack of lips. Thinking for a moment, Jack reaches into his jacket and, with a hollow snapping sound, removes a single, curved rib bone. He presents it to Courage, waving it in front of his face. Wanna play fetch, little guy?]

[Jack, in return, offers a look of mock confusion. He looks down at himself, feigning surprise, then back up at the stranger.]
