[Yeah. he's annoyed at you tube comments mostly.]

I am increasingly annoyed that I must state this, but the loaf of bread had and HAS long ago ceased to be the issue. So be it though, if I must spell out the facts. The man had broken parole. His initial sentence was not the touted nineteen years, and he earned the rest of what he received through his attempts to escape.

For the love of GOD, I could care LESS about the bread, the law says he paid for that, and so he did. It is everything that comes after. My "obsession" with Valjean was driven by the things that he did after, and his flouting of the very reasonable law that convicted criminals must be on parole. If he had wished to have a new life outside of prison, perhaps he should not have proved that he was indeed dangerous enough to warrant it throughout his years there .

...Other than this, you are doing well by ignoring me for the most part as I continue to ignore you and your presence as much as possible. It seems to be the only way to win with you, and so I shall take that for what it's worth. It is SOMETHING at any rate.

And yet you see nothing wrong with a law that allows for a man to be so harshly punished for a small crime that most of the country must commit to even survive.

I question a government that cannot tend to the needs of its people.

Now ain't this something. You're a real hunter, aren't ya?

Of course. We tend to be, men like you and I... but there is something to be said about a persons nature, isn't there? Some aren't just made into hunters, sir. They're born that way.

Mmhm. And this 'Valjean'... what did he do to merit such devotion?

[Pastel simply nods, the explanation sounds reasonable enough... even if the passion in the mans voice betrays his words. This is no ordinary manhunt... or if it is, this is certainly no ordinary lawman.]

Then I wish you the best of luck hunting, monsieur...?

[Alas Pastels only number is 9 that doesn't even rhyme He laughs a little at the unexpected question, eyes turning downwards look dow-NOPE because he's reminiscing, okay? Totally different story.]

See, that's a complicated question. I've had two names for a very long time now, each of those names belonging to a very different life. But after the unfolding of some recent events I gotta admit... I no longer know which name applies anymore.

I can imagine. One name belonged to the light of day- the name of an officer of the law. The name of a man who served his city well and kept order in the midst of chaos.

The second name belonged to the dark- it was the name of a hunter to and through. A man whose bloodthirst could not be sated within the limits of the law.

In a situation like that, monsieur Javert... what name would you think most fitting when that man is uprooted from all that he has ever known, and thrust into a place like this... where chaos reigns over so much, that it's practically become order?

Some people are not so dangerous that you lock up, Monsieur. But, what does it matter, me saying this to you? You do not listen to women such as me, and why should you?

[personal profile] makeflowersgrow 2013-08-31 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You did not listen before, Monsieur. I do not think you will listen to what I say now. It is always the same, and it always will be. Whilst you have food and money and give us none, we will steal or die in the streets, and then you will arrest us for theft or Vagrancy - as if we had a choice in either matter. It is your fault the man stole bread and it is yours that I steal now, Sir.

Then I should find them and congratulate them and ask them how they manage, for surely it must be a wonderful thing to have a roof and a full belly and dry clothes. It has been so long that I barely remember - but I do! And I should say to them they must show me, Monsieur.
