So where to first?? Shall we explore the wild folk here, or just get right to it? What? Oh come now, I know you're looking to place me in a game somewhere. And who wouldn't? I mean, I'm brilliant! No need to be coy about it!

I'm honestly a bit excited! Never had an experience like this, and that's saying a lot for how long I've been around. Who knows who we're going to meet or what that place'll be like or anything! So let's go!

Brilliant, that seems like forever ago! Ah, good old K-9. Got to see 'im a bit ago back on Earth...

[Wait. Back to semi-serious mode. He said 'sort of'] Whaddya mean, sort of...?

[How to explain?] So, I had to tell him that I can't tell him anything, I'm from his future, and he accepted that. You know how to deal with your metacrises. Things are good! I mean, it's still weird dealing with the he's-you-but-not-you thing, but we're working it out!

He did...kind of...figure out that I can't die, though. [Trying and failing to say that too fast for the Doctor to catch.]

[That's all? No epic catastrophe, no holes being punched in the time-space continuum... Huh.] Well, then you've done right so far! You can't tell him anything--not a thing. It could change the entire course of not only my life, but yours as well.

[Except that last part.] ... Well you should have seen that coming. I figured it out after all.. And he's still me, so... Makes sense. [Damn me for being so quick!]

[Well, potential holes being punched in the time-space continuum, but that's another story.] I've been good. [He gets a little bit of a pained look on his face.] I asked him what the last thing he'd done was, and he says he'd just come from Gallifrey. Couldn't say a thing, didn't even let him know that answer was significant. He doesn't have a clue.

I know I can't, but how do you deal with this?

[Ah. Right. That was back then, huh... Poor self doesn't even know what's coming. Here Jack, have a shoulder tap because the Doctor definitely feels for you on this.] Oh, I dunno. [He's getting that Doctor look he gets when he's saying something somewhat influential.] Sometimes it's just knowing that the slightest move could alter everything you know. Sometimes you have to remember that there's no changing the past. Creates problems... [He's thought about warning his previous self loads of times. But never has.]

For myself... it's... He should live in peace for a little longer. I did.

[Jack is definitely listening. He gives a smile that isn't actually happy at the Doctor's words.] I know. I get that, I just need the reminder. He said something similar.

[But then Jack's look turns concerned.] Hmm. He's living in peace. Because you aren't? I look at him, and I look at you, and I have to wonder how you got from that point to this one. Was it just the Time War? [Jack rolls his eyes at himself.] 'Just,' like the Time War was a minor thing. It wasn't, but you know what I mean. What happened to you?

[Nodding.] I'd hope so. I was young then, but still pretty brilliant.

[Ohp. He may have said a little much on that line. Nine times out of ten, he'll look happy go lucky. But right now--dkjnfa no no no, stop asking about those things because they're awful horrible things that make his feels all hurt and stuff! The Doctor won't ignore Jack, but he won't be straight about it either.] No. No, not just that. [Not that he knows of at least.

Lot can happen in nine hundred years you know.

[Jack nods, but the serious look isn't leaving his face.] You're talking to the one person who knows that. [Just feel the need to point that out.] But, too much time passes, you lose one too many people...how do you keep yourself from just shutting it all out? How do you still...care? [Little obvious that he's not just asking this question for the Doctor's sake any more.]

[:c This is like seeing a mirror, honestly. Jack pretty much summed it up with that little bit there.]

Do you regret knowing them after they're gone? Do you wish you hadn't met them?

[There is a very long pause, and Jack eventually has to look away.] No. Couldn't. I wonder if they'd been better off without me. No question. Wonder if I could have done things better, helped them more. But, I wouldn't take any of it back.

[And there you have it Jack. The Doctor just gives a little nod and a little sad smile.]

There are some really amazing people out there. They make it worth the journey.
