Oh, I wish Mother would tell me what to do! But she won't speak to me, no, no, she never speaks to Cicero... n-not that I mind, of course. She's chosen someone else to speak to, and I won't question her. Mother knows best!

Everyone I've heard talk about mothers says they're supposed to take care of you, or at least try and tell you what's good and bad. She doesn't sound like much of one if she doesn't.
