While I understand your - interest, I can't think of a single scenario in which taking me someplace would end well. It would probably be easier if you just let this go, quietly.

Besides, I've never even heard of this - Night Vale. What makes you think it would be in any way appropriate?

I think there's a floating cat. And there are mysterious figures, but I think these ones wear hoods, not trenchcoats.

Huh. ... I don't think there are any floating cats where I'm headed. At least, not that I've heard of.

It's still kind of up in the air - you know how they get about transfers. Something about "being able to handle me along with the others"...? As usual, I'm not getting the whole story. But I will eventually. [he's determined]

[ She points to it, then reaches over to unearth it, brushing off the cover before handing it to him. ]

Unable to handle you? Why, I never would've guessed.

... what game is she referring to?

I know, I'm pretty much the poster boy for quiet cooperation. I don't know what the problem is.

[he smirks, though his tone's a little distracted for obvious reasons. he loves the smell of new files in the late evening]

[ She idly crosses her arms over her front, studying his expression as he proceeds to read over the inside. ]

Wheat and wheat by-products, huh? So they're not only supernatural phenomena magnets, they're health-conscious. ... I don't know, Scully, if I'm gonna be looking into a 24-7 living, breathing X-File, I'm gonna want to be able to get a good slice of pie or a steak and cheese sub once in a while to fuel the good fight.

No cheesesteaks, though it makes mention of a fairly decent pizza place.

I'm not sure how you can have a fairly decent pizza with no flour. [still reading, by the way...]

[he shoots her that goofy little grin, even as his tone stays relatively flat] Somehow I don't think flourless pizza warrants an X-File. ... The rest of this is definitely interesting, though. How long's it been going on? Is this new?

From what the research team has gathered, it's been like that as far back as anyone can remember. No one can exactly recall a turning point, when things went from ordinary to - not so much.

Research team...? Where'd you get this from, anyway? The Gunmen? [he quirks an eyebrow. the thought of Scully going willingly to the Three Musketeers without him is a little ... well, odd in itself]

Or do we have another Friend in the Bureau?

[ Scully lifts an eyebrow herself. They both know perfectly well she's not going to plan a solo visit to that particular trio. ]

It almost looks too good to be true. [he bites his lip, rifling through the notes one more time] ... Might not be safe.

Since when has that stopped you?

You've got a point. And I never said it would. ... Honestly, the only thing that is stopping me is that I might get assigned somewhere else.
