Perhaps it is as you say, my lady, that I am only a young girl who knows little of dragonlore. I had no maester while I was growing up, and the stories Viserys told me concerned themselves more with how the dragons were the glory of our House, not with how their riders made them so. It may be that the dragons in these Havens can teach me much and more of that.

[ her voice sharpens. ]

But what is the price? Should I be content with knowledge that I cannot use while my people languish in Meereen? Should I abandon them without a word just so I alone may be "saved"? They look to me for protection. Should I answer by leaving them to the thin mercies of my enemies?

I wouldn't say that any one expect you to abandon your people. And if you are kept from them by circumstances beyond your control, that is some thing else entirely.

But knowledge truly is power, as they say. You might not be able to use it now, but it makes it no less valuable or worthy of having.

Is it still so worthy if it comes at the cost of innocent lives? [ her words are curt, bitter. ] As long as I am not there, where I belong, the result is the same. It makes no matter that I could not prevent myself from being sent away.

That isn't up to me to decide. I've had to make many a difficult decision in the past year, myself. And it never becomes easier.

[ she sighs. ]

[ in truth — yes. As much as she wished it was otherwise. Dany, too, has had to make difficult decisions... but at least she'd had a choice in them. This one was made for her. ]

Nor should you. It can be an opportunity to learn and meet new people, but there must be a way out.

[ she only nods in response to Samara's question. Yes, she was royalty. All kneel for Daenerys Stormborn, the Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Shackles, and Mother of Dragons — that was how her dear little scribe used to announce her... but she doesn't mention it. There was a time and place for such lofty styles, and neither of them were here. And she doesn't particularly want to discuss her reign in Meereen. Not with one who is all but a stranger to her at this moment. ]

[ likewise, samara does not mention being the hero of ferelden or the commander of the grey. aside from the fact that they're strangers, she does not associate great positive feelings with either one. she'd had a job, and she'd done it.
