[ The tattoos don't rise. They just continue to burn until it's quite obvious that Julian is in pain; several of the deeper scars break open and begin to bleed, but he remains silent, trying to calm down, and eventually the glowing and burning stops. He doesn't speak, just turns away from Leo, clearly trying hard not to cry. ]

[Leo's lip curls, and he scratches at his arm wildly before realizing that the twinges on his skin mean that Julian is in pain.]

Wait-- what's happening?

Nothing, Leo.

[ Julian's voice is completely void of emotion. He stares ahead, unseeing, lost in his mind. ]

What the hell-- look at me.

[He touches Julian's shoulder, gentle touch subverting his foul mouthed comments from before.]

[ He hangs his head, avoiding Leo's gaze. ]

[He gives the other man a gentle shake, still spooked by his behavior.]

[He wants to scream. He wants to apologize a hundred times, but that ever present miasma won't allow it. He looks at Julian with helpless eyes, a soft and formless cry leaving his lips in his frustration.]

[ Comprehension dawns in his eyes. ]

[ He wraps his arms around the taller man and hugs him, knowing Leo will either push him away or crumple against his chest. ]

[Leo hides his face in Julian's hair, willing the rending sensation plaguing his body to dissipate.]

[he mutters and takes a few deep breaths.]

[ His voice is soft and childlike, innocently curious. ]

[Leo moves to shake his head, but he can't answer properly, as that fog has returned to cloud his mind.]
