On being apped to
milliways_bar.
Madame Mun,
I understand that you want to give me a second chance, but please Dieu, I do not wish to be 'adopted' as you put it. I can make my own way, and I will.
However, if you are to put me in this place, please do have this happen this month. I do not wish to wait around for another month.
Maybe the second chance will not be as bad as I fear.
Finally having some hope,
Fantine

Adopted, Madame?

[There is something about this woman, something Fantine cannot place.]

[ She forces herself to stop gawking, turning her gaze away shyly. ]
I am a believer in second chances and how helpful they can be to those who have encountered many hardships.

[Fantine pauses, regarding the other woman for a moment, compassion in her face.]
Has it been bad for you, Mademoiselle?

Where does your mun intend to send you, Madame? Perhaps it will be a good change.

She is sending me to a place called Milliways, a bar, as she says, at the end of the universe. I do not understand the end of the universe part, however, she says it a place of hope.
[She makes a face, not sure if she really believes in hope much anymore.]

A complicated concept! I am in a world of dreams with my love, among other people from Paris. [ Notably an obsessive Inspector and a cruel, sad girl who abused her when they were young. So far, she has seen people turn their lives around - except for Eponine, who, though safe, sits in jail. ] You may have a chance for a better outcome, Madame, in these "games."

[She is thoughtful for a moment, then nods.]
I understand that there are many people there, from many different times and places. She believes that I will do well, there. I hope she is right.
You are from France, then? [Fantine pauses. Something is still niggling at her.]

Oui, Madame. And you are as well?
[ She's excited to reach this point in the conversation, wanting to know more about this woman, unable to quell the thought in her head, the small hope that she may be someone she knows. ]
