unfringed: (research necessary)

No, I don't believe you quite understand. Removing me from my universe could have catastrophic effects! We're just at the point where-- Yes, yes, I know it's only for some "game", as you say, but just because I am scientist doesn't mean I wish to be your guinea pig.

I was always much more partial to rats. Smarter creatures. Funny little paws that look like hands. Ingenious in the strangest ways. I remember one time I--

...

But that's beside the point!

I'm not going anywhere that I won't have my lab!

Or Peter!

[A scientist! Finally, someone who could be even remotely on his intellectual level!]

[...well maybe. Dustin's getting a little desperate.]

Sad, how common people never make allowances for science unless it's directly useful to them or provides cheap amusement. As if spending the time and resources on bettering civilization wasn't enough.

[Careful--don't want to encourage him too much.]

More than a pity--an annoyance. Especially when you're forced into their vapid brain and led from universe to universe like some transdimensional pet.

[He thinks about asking what for, but Walter's rambling makes it fairly obvious as to what interpretation of "incarcerated" he should use. Also Dustin could care less.]

I can imagine that, wherever your mun takes you, "proper food" is going to be the least of your problems. But it's best to keep your head and continue your research when you get there--the rest of the panicked rabble needs someone to keep them working in the right direction, yeah?

[Oh you've done it now muse. Shows you for wanting to troll about this comm, silly man, maybe you'll think twice--]

Hah! Finally, someone on my level! Forget simple joy in food and procreation and...

[He chooses to forget about mind alteration; unpleasant memories with telepaths.]

It's a necessity for people like us. The brain can't be fed with knowledge alone, as much as we'd like it to be so simple.

[Dustin winds up for some excited ranting about the brain and nutrients, but the question catches him first thank goodness.]

A little bit of both, a little bit of everything else. [He strokes at his patchy stubble.] If I were forced to pick, I'd have to lean towards practical, though; it's one thing to theorize, but it's something so much more to watch your theories come together into something tangible.

And yourself?

[Dustin becomes even more enthusiastic. Dammit, why are you so happy, cut that out! This is really unnerving]

I remember working in the university biology labs a few years ago, working with the graduates and their cadavers...I should have specified, biotechnology is one of my specialties. What was it you were working towards with your studies?...

[Given the time, he'll gladly continue to geek out about each others' scientific endeavors and discuss the specifics for hours afterwards. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ENCOURAGE HIM. I warned you.]

Walter, are you having bad dreams again?

None of us want you to leave the lab behind.

Is something going on?
