My mun has some experience there; we're waiting on approval now. Until then- well, she's got a few places to spend time at, something about Meme. Didn't think there were many Adherents of the Repeated Meme around anymore.

*Yup! Don't worry, he's getting a bit saner lately--enough so that he'll try to talk you into dying for the drums first, at least.*

How are you, by the way? Do anything fun recently? Die in any interesting ways?

[If Jack has his way, he might see the Master, but the Master won't see him. Of course... Jack's not the mundane, so he doesn't exactly get a choice.]

What can I say, it's a perk of being me. One of the reasons she picked me up. [Grin and shrug.]

You know, I tend to avoid dying, whenever possible. Not really cup of tea, if I don't have to.

*For which the Master is very glad.*

I've met another guy a lot like you. Immortal and sex-obsessed. *A creepy grin.* But he's a masochist. Makes me very happy, does Skye. Hopefully you're not too jealous.

But it makes the drumming so much softer when I kill you, Jack. And even your wrongness fades a little. *He is so totally pouting now.* Just one quick death, please? I'm getting a headache, if I could just snap your neck it would go away . . .

Ooooo, sounds promising. If I could trust you not to kill me, I'd ask to be introduced.

[Pauses, and then-] But there you go with the death threats. You should really look into stocking up on aspirin, does wonders for headaches.

Sorry, but asprin is poisonous for Time Lords. *He sighs.* Sucks, doesn't it? Not that it would help much anyway, the drums aren't just in my head.

They're the key to the Time Lock, Jack; the one around the Last Great Time War. The Council was willing to twist their own history and torture an eight-year-old child into insanity just to keep fighting a hopeless war.

[Why do you think he suggested it? He adopts a mocking sympathetic look.] It must be so hard for you.

[He'll listen- for the moment. After all, it's not as if he hasn't had plenty of experience letting the Master rant. Granted, this part of the story he hasn't heard before, this part is new, but it doesn't change anything. One eyebrow arches.] I feel for you, really, I do. You got dealt a very bad hand in life. That doesn't excuse it all.

If you felt for me you wouldn't be smirking and offering me poison. *His hands clench into fists, which crackle with time energy from his faulty resurrection.* Don't they? I'd have been the Doctor's companion if not for the drums. I'd be sane, and none of this would've happened.

I was at my most lost in them, that year. I was them, they were me, and they obeyed my every whim. No, wait, reverse that. Or something, I don't know anymore. *He takes a deep breath and shakes his head as though that would clear it.* The drums were too loud for me to even think of being sane, but not always loud enough to hate them yet.

Would you like to hear them, Jack? Just for a moment? Not really loud, not like I hear them, but loud enough to have some slight idea of what I'm going through every second of the day.

Always were a traveler, weren't you? Makes sense. You've got all the time in the world for it.

If I wasn't initially, I learned from the best. [Wink.] Not to say that I can't stay in one place, but- [There has to be a very good reason for it.]

Need a good reason, yeah. [Look, they're finishing each other's sentences.]

Gets boring even then, though. Much better when you convince people to come with you.

[It's something of a start for Jack, his gaze darting to the Doctor's face at his words. Sharing that thought with the Doctor...]

Yeah, it is, isn't it. It's great, having someone by your side. [Until things go wrong, at least.]

[He's had the thought more than once, he could just never justify it to himself. Staying in one place forever. Seemed unfair to the rest of the universe.]

Or two somebodies, or three, yeah.

[The comments gets a tickled grin from the former Time Agent, and a teasing arched eyebrow.] Two or three, Doctor? All at the same time? [Stop it, Jack. He really can't help himself.] Sounds like a fun time.

Oh, come on, get your mind right!

I'm sure you've had your fair share of two or three somebodies at the same time.

I should think that you'd have plenty of fun no matter where you might find yourself. [She gives him a look that's somewhere between amused and flirtatious.]

Of course I will, especially when I find myself in such lovely company as yourself. [He grins and reaches for her hand to lay a gentlemanly kiss across it.]

Flatterer. [Not that Martha minds at all, especially when he kisses her hand, but she rolls her eyes on general principle.] But I reckon your mun's right, there's no need to limit yourself to games. Not when you could do, well, just about anything.

Only when it's deserved. [His grin only grows at the eyeroll. Really, she should be used to him by now, shouldn't she?]

It's a good way to look at the world, especially when you've got as long as I do to enjoy it. All things in good time. And a good time for all things, and people.

[She's used to him, of course, but rolling her eyes is better than admitting that she rather enjoys both the flattery and the flirtation. (And, if she's being entirely honest, his smile.)]

I agree, it's an excellent philosophy, though maybe not quite as catchy as 'Hakuna Matata'. But still rather fitting for you.

[Martha, what are you even talking about?]

[Jack laughs in response, shaking his head mirthfully. Oh Martha, he enjoys your wit. His eyes shine with amusement when he speaks again.]

Not quite, no, but it seems to work for me. I do get to meet all the loveliest ladies and gentlemen that way. [His tone leaves no doubt that she's included in that number.]

I too find such freedoms to be especially appealing.

Then I hope you enjoy them to their fullest, madame. [Jack offers a warm smile.] If I understand correctly, there's plenty of freedom to go around, and someone of your grace would be more than welcome along.

Oh, I dunno, might not be so bad, settling on someplace.

Maybe sometime, but I don't think either of us are ready for that. My mun's returning from a long hiatus, and as for me- Well, you might convince me if you'd be there too. [Wink.]

[That earns a laugh. Leave it to him to be completely charming.]

Well then, good thing I'm stuck in a couple of places, no way of getting out anytime soon. [She grins, all kinds of enthused.] I've gotten kinda decent at waiting. [In her opinion, anyway.]

Ooh-ho-ho, you temptress, you! [He laughs as well, grin wide.] If I'm not careful, you'll have me checking places out.

Right, yeah, that's me. An awful temptress. [He's going to get a playful hit to his arm for the first part.]

Just for that, I'm gonna tell you all 'bout this one place I'm at. Giant island, yeah? 'Cept it's not that, it's a turtle. [You are now free to ooh and aah, Jack.]

Ooh! [He mock dodges the swat, eyes shining with mirth.] Now, now, if you're hit me, there are better, more fun targets than my arm. [Can you taste the innuendo, Rose? He all but waggles his eyebrows as she continues.]

A turtle as big as an island, huh? Let me guess- you ended up marooned there somehow? That's how most of these places work, right? [A situation he's not entirely unfamiliar with.]

[Oh she definitely can, and it earns him a toothy, tongue-touched grin. This is why she enjoys having Jack around, he's just fun.]

Something like that. One minute I was in the TARDIS, next I was waking up there. Doctor's not there yet, but I'm pretty sure he's gonna show up any day now. [Because nope, he wouldn't abandon her in some strange turtle island place forever.]

Tell you what, though. Anymore teasing from you, and he's gonna show up here and yell at the both of us.

[Oh, he loves that grin, as bright and cheery as she is.]

Wherever you go, he's not far behind, especially if you disappeared from the TARDIS. You know how he gets. [The Doctor would move heaven and earth and more to rescue Rose.] I guess I'll just have to tease you a tad more to get him to hurry up.

Yeah, and then it'd be just like old times again.

[And she misses those something awful. Stepping in closer, she leans in so she can latch onto one of his arms, giving him a makeshift hug.]

Harkness and Tyler against the universe, Doctor too, of course. You miss all that, don't you? You've just got to.

[Rose, you have no idea. Jack wraps his still free arm around her into his own hug, and lays a teasing kiss on the top of her head.]

Sounds like a dream come true. We were unstoppable together, the three of us. You know that?

[She eats all that up, laughing as she moves to give him a full and proper hug.]

Oh, definitely. How could I not know it? All those things we saw, places we went? We were better than unstoppable!

[But she can't think of an actual word that's better than unstoppable, so she pulls out of the hug to glance up at him with a lopsided grin.]

Don't let this go straight to your head or anything, but I've missed you.

Alright then: we were perfect. [He chuckles when he meets that oh so lovely grin of hers, his own smile dazzling. It's been a long time since he's been able to laugh with Rose like this, and it's fantastic.]

Who, me? [She gets another wink. His tone is a little warmer, less teasing, when he continues.] Missed you too. Not quite the same without you around.

Looks like we'll have a chance to be perfect all over again, too.

[And she's downright radiant over that fact. Her hands go up under her chin as she gives a bounce or two in place.]

Everything's gonna be just...well, perfect! [Yep, she can be a big kid sometimes. She's well aware of this fact.]

There's nothing wrong with commitment.

Not in the least. But you should never commit to something you can't follow through with.

That is true. I rarely ever do.

Smart man. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm always as good at that myself.

Maybe not. Although I understand that that's one of your strengths.
