At The Wake@LJ; On voice troubles and needing a vacation

[Earlier, when discussing a sudden lapse in confidence with playing our favorite Keyblade Master here on plurk, Sora's mun stated the following - "I just feel like he must be incredibly boring to play with, because something is off. And I'm going to shake his spiky little keyderp head until I figure out what it is."

Apparently, she is a mun of her word.]

Mun! H-hey, stop shaking me! I thought you were just joking! Come on, this isn't going to solve anything. And it kind of hur- ow!

Sure, I know I've been a little quiet lately, but...well, everyone needs a good nap sometimes.

[Sora, you are the last person in this canon who needs a good long nap.

...okay, second-to-last.]

That was a really long time ago. Years ago! Wow, now that you mention it, I really have been in Nautilus for a long time. And besides, you need the break as much as I do.

Think about it-

[A pause.]

You know what? I'm taking that back. Don't think about it. You've been thinking too much, lately. It's so loud in here sometimes that it's amazing you can even hear me at all. Makes it kind of hard to talk to my friends, to tell you the truth. They're all out there, and I have to yell at you from in here, and most of the time I can barely get your attention. It takes a lot of energy! No wonder I'm falling asleep. And all I'm saying is that...well, maybe all of these problems you have running around inside your head would be a lot easier to take care of if you stopped trying so hard and followed your heart a little more.

So what do you say, mun? Maybe we should take that good long hiatus you keep talking about. Think of it as a vacation for both of us. That's a lot better than just giving up, right? I'm sure that we'll both come back from it more focused than ever!

...now, um, while you're thinking about that, I'm gonna go see what I can do about this headache.

[ ... well--except for that one break. ]

Four years and six months, I guess.

I guess I'll take care of things again if you need to nap. I heard your mun likes me.

See, I've been here for about that long, too-or, well, I guess there was that one year...

[It was more than a year, but shush. Small details.]

The point is, it's not just for me. I think she needs the break even more than I do.

And no way! I mean, to the you taking care of things part. You're not going to run off and do everything by yourself anymore. So...no naps. I'll just go hang out on the beach instead. That way, if anything happens, I'll be wide awake, and we can take care of it together.

[ details, who needs 'em. ]

She probably does... pretty sure my mun's worried for her. She needs a vacation somewhere that serves drinks with umbrellas.

[ ... murr ] I bet you'll nap on the beach.

She keeps saying that she doesn't want to let her friends worry...but at this rate, I'm kind of worried too. Think that there's a way to get her to the beach, too?

[...and hey...]

Will not. Watch me - I'll stay awake for days!

No matter what she wants, they're going to worry. That's kind of what friends do. I don't know about the beach. Is she even close to one?

[ snort. ]

And then fall asleep for days. C'mon, Sora.

Nah, not really. But I'm in her head, right? So maybe I can make her dream about one.

[What, hey, that's not-

...okay, no, he's laughing. He can't help it, because it probably is true. But there's no way he'll ever admit that. Ever.]

What's wrong with taking a few naps on the beach, anyway? It can't be that hard to wake me up.

[ he's about to offer some words of advice about dreaming and muns... ]

[ ... when Sora gives him that. ]

[ he cannot believe this. ]

[ there is something to be said about cruel irony. ]

[ it strikes at the worst times. ]

Yeah.

Can't be that hard.

[ he says, voice flat. ]

[Enjoy a completely mystified stare at your deadpan tone, because wow, biffle, what's gotten into you all of the sudden-

...

...oh.]

[Oh.]

[That...was probably not the smartest thing he's ever said.

Actually, that was a pretty dumb thing to say.]

[Welp.]

You know, now that I think about it, maybe I should just give up on napping for awhile. Or...forever, maybe.

[ he leans over and pokes his forehead. ]

I think you should just get an alarm clock.

[Normally, he would protest the forehead poke...but this time, it's probably fair. This time, at least.]

Okay, maybe you're right. I'll even put it on the other side of my room, so that I have to wake up to turn it off.

[He pauses, just for a moment, to think about what to say next...and though he tries to make it sound like a joke, there's an underlying seriousness that's hard to miss.]

But...seriously, no more long naps. I promise.

[Not like the one he took before - the one that he and Riku are both thinking of.]

Good idea.

[ ... when silence fills the gap between them, Riku's not sure why, and he opens his mouth to speak, though he's caught off-guard by his words.

and, he smiles ruefully. ]

Well, we've got one more long nap ahead of us.

I guess I'll let you off on that one, though, since we're both taking a break.

[ there's a bit more joking in his tone, to cheer Sora up. a pause. ]

Your nap helped me, anyway.

See? Even you need a break, sometimes.

[Even though this nap isn't going to be much of a break, and Sora knows that. But at least neither one of them will have to go through it alone.

He pauses at Riku's next words, though, the confusion returning to his expression.]

It did?

Hey, the only break I got was when my mun decided to take her own advice and follow her heart.

... even then, it was only six months.

[ his straight face turns back into a little smile, and he tips his head up. ]

Yeah. It reminded me of what really mattered.

Yeah? And what's that?

[And Sora's smiling again, because he knows the answer. It's hard not to, after everything that's happened.

But he wants to hear it anyway; maybe because he really is a total sap.]

[ ........ 8I! ]

My friends.

Y'know, taking a break doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

See, exactly! Everyone needs to stop and clear their head sometimes, or else they'd probably all go crazy.

Yeah, no kidding! I mean, I'd do it, no problem.

[He gives a quick glance over his shoulder at the Mun who's attention is suddenly preoccupied elsewhere.]

Sadly not everyone follows that kind of advice...

Yeah, tell me about it.

[And he takes the chance to glance back at his own mun, who...well, is sort of doing her homework. At least she's not shaking his head anymore.]

You know, I think that if our muns took more breaks, our lives would be a lot easier.

Oh man, would it ever! I didn't think it'd be so hard trying to get some attention for that.

And then they start trying to do too much at once, and they pay even less attention. Talk about a total mess, huh?

And I thought our age group was suppose to be that bad...

Well. It gives us some insight on what we can improve upon, at least.

Right! Even when we grow up and have a lot of things to do, it'll be better to try to take it all one step at a time. Worrying too much doesn't solve anything.

See, now why can't things just be thought through like this more often? This is how it should be done.

...And oooh great I think the mun is making some of the weirdest faces.

Really, why can't they just listen a little more?
