Hey, mun? You and I have problems. Lots. So I'm going to pull a Vork and list them.

1. One: I just wanted to throw a party that didn't end in disaster. For once. But, no, you had to turn it into a real life game of Jumanji! Jerk.


2. Two: I miss my friends. I... really, really miss them. But that does not mean I want my friends to join me in Danger Central! Seriously, I can barely keep those jerks alive in a virtual world! Forget one with super villains and weird boats and enchanted board games and whatever else the City wants to throw at us this week. Dead is not better than gone. I mean it.


3. Three: I still have to go on that date with the creepy Greek dude.


4. Four: I am still crushing on a secret serial killer.

Well, he's calling himself "Rudy" but I think his real name is Brian. And I think there's something about Ice Trucks? Not that I know anything about any of that, outside of here, of course...

Y- you know, comic books and stuff... it's not the same as The Game or my fantasy novels, but hey, close enough! Right?

I don't see how that's supposed to be a plus. Not that there's no charm in being well-read, but comic books aren't exactly literature.

I can't say that the stuff I usually read is that classy, either. [ Nervous smile. ] I- I mean, I have read literature— I could out-quote that jerk Fawkes if I had to. But, um. I think it's a positive!

Because then maybe he won't judge me for being such a nerd.

It's okay. It is a pretty dangerous situation, I can't blame anyone for worrying. I'd be worried! If I knew.

To each their own. I don't expect I'll ever understand what it is about all that young people find so appealing. But then, everyone's entitled to their... hobbies...

[ So begrudgingly. ]

You know, cliche as it sounds... there are always other fish in the sea. You don't have to settle down with the first boy you meet who likes funny books, you seem charming enough.

"Young people", huh? You sound like my Dad. Or Vork.

[ She means it in a good way. Really. Mostly. ]

Come on, haven't you ever wanted to just escape? That's not so hard to understand, is it? That's basically what geeky pursuits boil down to. Though some people can take it way, way too far...

[ Shakes her head. ] A- and, anyway, thanks for the compliment... but I'm kind of a mess. There might be guys who are into that.... wouldn't be the first time... but still, I haven't had the best luck with guys.

Well, yes. It's accurate, so I'm hardly surprised your father and whomever "Vork" is would say the same thing.

[ And with a sigh: ]

I'm sure everyone has their moments when they want to avoid their problems. [ Not that he wants to elaborate. ] I think escaping that way can become a bad, addictive habit.

... Just remember that nobody is perfect. Um, a little confidence can go farther than you'd think.

My guild leader! Vork, that is, not my Dad. That would be... really awkward. He's, uh, our team leader. Basically. Slash resident grumpy old man.

And... you're right. I mean, even I can't deny that I am a little too invested in The Game. Sometimes. It can be pretty addictive. But — without it, I wouldn't have my friends. So it can't be all bad, can it?

[ Nervous laugh. ] And. Right. Confidence. I'll... try to keep that in mind.
