[There's a nod, and she'll watch him carefully as he makes the drinks. She'd offer to help, but she knows from experience adults don't tend to like her being around anything hot in the kitchen. How long had it been since they had properly had food or drink like this that wasn't so tightly rationed?]

[He pours the water into the cup and adds in the cocoa mix. He briefly pauses to choose between large or small marshmallows. Finally, he puts in one large and several smalls. He passes over the mug.]

Here you go. Should be some, excuse me, damn fine hot chocolate if I do say so myself.

I'm sorry, I forgot introductions. I'm Special Agent Dale Cooper.

[Clementine takes the offered cup, careful and mindful it would be hot.]

You just made a swear! [But, she supposes 'damn' is one of the more minor ones as far as she knows, unlike some other words. She looks up from the marshmallows when he introduces himself, offering her name in return.]

So, this "Lee"... Father figure?

[Clem just. Gives him a look at that. But okay, he had said 'excuse me' for his language, yeah. There's a moment of thought before she decides 'father figure' is probably the best way to describe Lee's relationship to her.]

Uh-huh. Something like that, he's been taking care of me since he found me back home.

[Cooper is simultaneously childish and mature. He gets that kinda look a lot.]

Ah. Something dangerous go occur that you had to leave home?

[While Lee and the others try, they are not immune to Clem's 'yeah right' looks either. Or reprimanding if she feels the need. She blows on the hot chocolate before taking a sip and answering.]

Yeah, it...wasn't safe, so we left to try and find my parents at Savannah.

Ah. Savannah. I've heard they have some beautiful oak trees.

I assume things went downhill from there?

[A nod.] It seems like it, sometimes. But at least I'm not alone anymore. Lee and I found some other people to stick with now.

A family of sorts, huh? I remember I made myself a surprisingly good friend in this Northwestern town... but I digress.

Were these people friendly? If not that, just nice to be around?

I guess it's sort of like another family. We try and look out for each other now we're all together. And Ben has been really nice to me.

It's good to have friends who help each other out. In my opinion, they're the best kind of friend to have.

They are. I'm glad Lee found me and we met up with them. I wouldn't like to still be stuck in the treehouse back home.

Treehouses tend to lose their appeal when it's just one person.

They do. But at least it was safe up there for the meantime until Lee came and found me.

It's good! Especially with the marshmallows.

Marshmallows tend to improve things. Except perfection. Like a cup of black coffee.

From the walkers. My babysitter got bitten by one, that's why I went and hid in the tree house form her.

So you don't have milk?

Yeah. There was a message from my parents, they're still in Savannah, so Lee and I are trying to figure how to get there and find them to see if they are okay.

I hope you find your parents. You're very brave despite everything you've no doubt been through.

[He hopes that didn't sounds condescending. He really does admire Clementine's bravery from just the small snippets of backstory he's heard.]

I hope so too. Well, my mun has finished the game so she knows what happens. We've all been through a lot, really. I don't know if I would be so brave if I didn't have Lee helping me.

[It's not condescending, Clementine tries to believe the best in people in her youthful optimism and innocence.]

Having others around usually helps with the bravery. "Strength in numbers" as they say.

Right! That's why it's better for us to stick together in a group back home.

I can't imagine dealing with the things I have without the people around me. I guess it would be a lot worse in your situation.
