On a mun forcing her to keep a journal (read: a mun's first time playing on a journal site)

Dear Mun (mun? What is a mun?),

Am I doing this right...? I-I know your friends want me to keep a diary, but are you entirely sure this Internet is necessary? I-I've never used this before...

I know you said Allen and the others are here as well, but... I guess this will take some time to get used to. Could your friends give me some pointers?

Yours truly and forever,
Lenalee Lee

Some of us are definitely floating around here too, so you're not alone, Lenalee.

And I guess it is a little confusing to start with, isn't it? But it's not so bad when you get used to it. Can I help with that in any way?
kandescence: (hmmm)

Kanda sucks at being reassuring. Welcome to DW RP-land though!

A diary? [He's never really thought of it that way.]

This place is always strange, the way these idiot mundanes try to talk to each other through us. You'll get used to it.

They usually shut up and just let us talk when you go to other places. ...They aren't always places that you'd want to go though.

[Huffing a little because explanations. He's got a modicum more patience for her than for most people though, so he'll at least give it a try.]

Mundanes because they're dull and they live in a dull world. Compared to us and the places we live. [And Kanda likes to use mundane rather than mun because he thinks it sounds like more of an insult.]

That stupid Beansprout you're talking to and I are stuck in America in 1928. Daisya's with us too.

There are others in all kinds of places though--experimental facilities, strange cities, schools. I've spoken to them or seen them in passing. Most of the time they're stuck in worlds that the mundanes call "games." They come here sometimes though.

And then there are these..."meme" things. They're temporary, quicker. Each one is its own scenario. You talk to whoever you want and it's different every time. My mundane says that yours should look at [community profile] bakerstreet if they want to see what that's like.

I'm not interested in keeping a diary. My mundane uses my journal to keep track of things I've done. [Shrugging aloofly.] You do what you want though.

[OOC: Because even with all the meta in the world, Kanda won't manage to explain the finer points of this: most folks use their character journals less to make in-character diary entries and more for keeping tabs on game info and some private RP logs. The majority of games on Dreamwidth are community-based, which means that in-character posts go in the game communities. But a few are journal-based games, which means that in-character posts go on the character's journal but are still specifically for other characters in the game.

So if you ever see someone's journal with a bunch of first-person in-character posts, be sure to check before jumping in to interact, since it's likely that the posts are meant for other game members only, and someone else joining in would be quite the faux pas! In practice for most people, more actual RP takes place in communities than on the character journal itself, though you can of course do whatever works for you. :) ]

kandescence: (Sounds like something he'd say)

[Slight frown, but he'll accept the teasing with a little Hmph.]

Daisya's... Yes. But he knows that he died. It's complicated. [What can he say? It's bound to be difficult knowing that you're dead in your own world but being alive in another. This is Kanda trying to be sensitive about it badly.

As for the game he's at, it's based on the works of HP Lovecraft/Call of Cthulhu, but it's tiny and quite slow, so we're fighting for momentum, tbh. The 1920s setting is a blast though!]

I've heard of Asgard. My mundane knows some others who play there, says they seem to like it.

You'll do fine. [Which is as close as he's going to come to saying you're welcome.]
