On being accepted to The Wake

...I hope you know what you've just gotten yourself into.

Don't worry about me. I never fail, remember? I don't care how 'crazy' you've warned me things are going to be. I don't fail. If I fail, people and Pokemon suffer. The world could have ended if I failed. So I just don't. No one ever has to worry about that. It's just...

[He goes quiet for a long period of time.]

I suppose I didn't realize until now how alone it would feel not to have my Pokemon with me. But I don't need them. I don't need anyone. I mean, even Cynthia treats me like an idiotic little kid, and I still beat her in a fair fight. It's who I am.

[Which one of us are you trying to convince, Lucas?]

No one. I'm just thinking this through. One of us has to.

I dunno, dude. Saying you never fail is like an invitation for it to happen, especially in Nautilus. I mean, I'm not saying you shouldn't be optimistic, but everyone screws up at least once in a while.

Plus a lot of muns are crazy... They get their kicks watching us struggle and fail. They say it "builds character."

[That last bit may have come with a bit of a sarcastic tone.]
deusrexmachina: (Not so sure...)

You'll have to pardon the kid here... The last event was rough on him. >)

Lemme put it to you this way, then... A little less than three years ago, when my mun first put me in Nautilus, I would've been the last guy to say anything about "pride going before a fall." But after spending all that time in the City of Change? Man, you wouldn't believe some of the stuff that can happen. Not until you've had to live through it and you find that as strong as you are or think you are...

You're not strong enough.

Just puttin' that out there, amigo.
