A student there for six years, even. You learn the patterns they follow eventually. Random as they might feel.

Eventually. [ Snorts. ] My brother and I have been working on devising a method for calculating the patterns. Some definitely have a schedule to them that you could almost set a clock by. But some of the other doors and passages are completely random and can't be followed at all.

Anyway... six years. That'd make you... [ Counts in his head. ] At least twenty-five?

It's the castle's favourite prank to play. I swear sometimes the entire building can think for itself and it's just devising new ways to make sure you're late to every class. I'm sure Dumbledore found it amusing.

[ Twenty -- ] What? Goodness, no - I'm only eighteen.

That seems to be the case, anyway. Makes for mapping it a bit hard, but charms seem to do a decent enough job of relaying the castle's shifts in real time. I'm not worried so much 'bout being late for classes though.

[ That's what timeturners are for.

And oh... of course. And here he was hoping that her being taller actually meant she was older. For once. His life... ]

My best friend had a map of the premise. It's not really the best thing to use, though. He really ought to have handed it over to teachers, I kept trying to tell him it could be dangerous, but he never wants to listen to me.

[ Hermione shouldn't be allowed to touch timeturners ever again. Ever.

He did, huh? [ Tempted to ask how it worked rising... ] It's only dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands. And even then, me an' Al would rather destroy it before letting that happen. It's coded anyway. We're pretty picky about letting other people read our research and findings.

[ And don't look at him that way alright. Don't even think about asking if he's thirteen either. ]

Years must've got messed around with when ol' Dumbles screwed around with his spell and dragged people into this world. Third years are ages sixteen through eighteen. I'm nineteen, but just had my birthday, so I'm stuck until the end of the year.

It's... home. It's hard to get much better than that.

[ She smiles a little sadly. ] But it doesn't have everything that the island has, either.

Well, I have heard the weather isn't quite so nice in England as in Atia, but I don't imagine there's much else to miss. [At least not because of the island itself. The people there, though...]

[ Well some people are really good at it. ]

[ She laughs a little, nodding. ]

Well, I can't deny that. I'll definitely miss the more steady sunshine. But... But it's odd to think of being in a place without some of my closest friends.

I'm sure you'll make new ones-- besides, if it's your home, won't Harry and Ron and Luna be there, too? And it may be for the best you don't remember the island.

Luna may be, it seems. But it's... it's still different than it used to be. I'll be going to school again, even though I made the decision to not return for seventh year. And there are people being brought in from different worlds, just like on the island. It doesn't look like Ron and Harry have been called back yet.

[Don't mind him, he's actually surprised to be here at all really. His own writer doesn't bring him out very often.]

You seem to do a fair enough job with Ron, surely if anyone can whip him into shape it's you.

All that bad being the key words there. [ She's teasing, really. But she sighs, shaking her head. ] It's going to take a lot of effort. He had better thank me for it if I manage to get him to at least get passing grades.

[Of course it seemed like there was always something happening throughout the years that made taking them difficult or passing harder than it should be. At least you could never claim things were boring when he was around, unless you count History of Magic, there was nothing on earth that could poor old Professor Binns interesting.]

I'm certain you've got it in you, you've been helping us cram for ages and if you're going back to school it'll be practice right? I mean - not that you ever need practice.

Everyone needs practice. It'll be good to have tests and homework to focus on again.

[ As opposed to horcruxes and death and things. But also means a lack of him and Ron around and... Well, any of that curbing of being happy to see him seems to evaporate as she goes in for one of her classic no-warning hugs. ]

Not that it will be the same without you two around. I mean, I might actually make it out without any scrapes or bruises. [ She should sound happier about this. ]

Almost. I don't know how I feel about Hogwarts of all things being so changed, but... Mm. It's better than a lot of those places muns want to send us.
