Maybe it's not exactly my place to say, but I do not see the need for such a rush to get me into these... these "games" you're pouring over. Are they really so important? To be ripped from my home, even if it goes into a sort of stasis upon my leaving--
... [ Sigh. ] You're not listening, are you? Never would I think fate to be so heavy handed and selective in hearing.

[So I heard you wanted gloom. And awkward.]

[ Nah, she can totally handle Gerome's
angstgloom. He gave her a cool mask, after all. ]no subject
This system of "mun" and "puppet" sits ill with me.

[Is that a rather subtle note of wry amusement? Why yes, it is.]

You give me too much credit. That's something to be expected of a leader, is it not? It's through the bonds with you and the rest of my comrades that grant me such strength.
no subject
I only give what is due. Not all men and women are born leaders. It takes true mettle and spirit to rise to the challenge of commanding, overcoming all the difficulties that accompany such a mountainous task. It is no falsity when I praise your aptitude. [And yet he does not deny the strength of numbers. He simply thinks Lucina is a grander person for her willingness and capacity to stand at the forefront of a group, rather than shy from them.]

[ Really, she should be used to the platitudes, but overall, she could only do as much as any of her allies would do. She rose to leadership to follow in her father's footsteps, to try and make a difference for the people who depended on her, but it never left her mind that her future couldn't be saved in the moments she was there. ]
But let us fall on a compromise, shall we? I accept your words if only you accept credit that you are the reason I am capable of all that and more.
[ She knows how Gerome rolls, man. ]

You are a strong leader, Lucina, and I am proud to be a pillar upon which you can lean. [There. He said it. HE IS NOT BLUSHING.]
no subject
You're absolutely right. You have my gratitude, Gerome. [ ... and then it falters into an almost... sheepish? Smile. ] As well as my apologies.
[ There's a reason for this. Really. ]
no subject
I do not require an apology. [By which he means she's done nothing that warrants it/WHY ARE YOU APOLOGIZE I AM SO DERP.] As I thought, it is best to keep to the battlefield...
no subject
It is about the mask you lent me. I am grateful that you gave that to me. I apologize only for not being able to take better care of it.
[ At least her father killed the ingrate that damaged it. ]
no subject
It served its purpose. If it was Fate's decree that it be broken, then the outcome could not have been averted. I am glad it was of use to you. [And that, y'know, you weren't given a scar in place of the mask. Then you'd look like Brady.]
no subject
it leaves room shenanigans. Also hi, I am quietly shipping these two. ]More than you could imagine. [ Her smile is quick to form back on her face at his words. ] If that was Fate's hand, then I challenge that by giving some form of repayment back.
no subject
oh good because I thought their s-support was the cutest damn thing when I read it][Lucina choosing to challenge fate is no surprise to him. Her decision to come back in time alone is enough of a statement on what she thinks of the inevitable. As such, something of a small, amused smile curls the edges of his lips. There is no changing fate and in his heart he has accepted it, but she makes him hope he is wrong.] What have you in mind?
[A replacement mask? An owed boon?]
no subject
tbh I didn't get that far since she got shipped to Inigo but it will happen eventually! /ships lucina with nearly everyoneShe lets out an amused sound at that. Maybe she'll go for something challenging... for him. ]
I would hope you tell me that. It is a debt owed to you, after all. You may ask anything of me, and I shall do my best to see it fulfilled.
[ If it is within reason, of course. Of course, since it's Gerome, she wouldn't have to worry about anything outlandish. ]
no subject
argh I ended up getting her with Inigo too and I was so mad when I got Gerome. So I read it here.][One eyebrow goes up from behind his mask, a single expression of both curiosity and bemusement. Such an open-ended offer is dangerous, especially when it is given by royalty. He knows what the others would ask- Inigo would request something unseemly and inappropriate, a kiss or a date. Owain would ask for eternal companionship upon the battlefield or some such.
As for him? What does he want of Lucina other than "nothing"? He is able to fight by her side and support her both on and off the battlefield. There is precious else he desires when it comes to her. Well... precious else that he desires of her and is realistic.
While he ponders this, an image comes unbidden to his mind. One from a time long ago when they were young and protected from the darkness their parents faced on a near daily basis. Two children, playing at frivolous things and enjoying each other's company. Before any death, before any sorrow and before all the fighting. Simplistic, pure and contented happiness. It's a foolish thing to want, the past cannot be relived after all, but...]
Lunch. [The word is past his lips before he can rethink his decision.] The two of us, alone.
[And a belated thought: wait isn't that like a date?]
no subject
oh, hello heart. you were useful before you turned into a puddle of gushAnother blink, another pause. That's it? She shouldn't be surprised; she always knew him to be a man of simple, practical tastes. Her inner soliloquy is brief, however, and she nods eagerly with that ready smile of hers. ]
I would love that. Wouldn't it be just like old times?
[ Before all that death and destruction and the heavy weight of responsibility upon them both. The memory itself seemed like a dream just looking back, but it happened. And now she sees the small benefit of being found here by Gerome in this place in that she didn't have a fight for the world to worry over now.
And yes, the concept that it sounded like a date flies totally over her head. ]
no subject
You didn't need that anyway, right?][He shouldn't be surprised she remembers those times as well, but he is. It's a pleasantly surprised kind of feeling though, a pleased sentiment that she has not forgotten the few good memories they have and that their time together is one of them.
That perhaps she remembers them as fondly as he does.]
Yes, it would. [A brief pause, here comes that awkward shyness again. Creeping up upon him like a mage with arcwind on a pegasus knight...] It's a simple enough request, in any case. But if it's impossible, tell me now and I shall think of another.
no subject
maybe for proper functions, but nope. She gets what he's trying to do, and she'll have none of that, good sir. Her smile doesn't leave her voice, and she gives a brief chuckle before she says: ]
Not even a pack of Risen would keep me from completing this "daunting" task. When and where shall we dine?
[ Hell, she'll even make food for him. It'd be more to make up for his mask being broken. ]
no subject
Hey, the Risen prove you don't need functioning organs to kill things!][Give her a diplomatic way to say no without possibly offending either of them? Yes, yes he is.
and perhaps keep him from making a fool of himself] I am a wolf who thrives upon the field of battle. With no conflict to occupy my time, I have no engagements I must keep. We may go at a time best suited for you.no subject
[ She'd genuinely admit that she'd really like to use that time for more important things, like fighting a war or killing Risen and all that jazz, but. ]
So perhaps soon? A wolf needs to stop and take some time to refresh himself on food and rest.
