Mundane, as it appears I must instruct you as well as my son -
A prince does not stand around and wait in someone's headspace. A prince must act before he, or the herd, are instead acted upon.
Besides all this, Bambi still needs me. His mother.... [There's a moment of weakness before he rallies himself.] I have yet to locate a suitable doe. I will not allow you to force me to abandon my duties or my son, for all that you seem determined to try making me do both. It is not the way of a prince. It is not my way.

She suddenly bows--must be polite!!--and flushes a deep red.]
I-I'm so sorry to stare! Oh, um, I hope your mundane understands, Deer-san... they're very stubborn people sometimes, but they aren't all bad; I'm sure they'll move a little quicker now that you've said something.

Cautiuosly, just in sort of this turns out to be some sort of trick (as it always has been thus far), he answers. While he watches veeeeeery closely.]
I won't get my hopes up.

You could, just a little? The more optimistic I am, the more my mundane is, too. Maybe the same will be true for yours.

Optimism saves no does, nor their fawns.

Because nothing's there, is there? Nothing to be seen and nothing to be heard, now ...
Carry on. ]

Not for nothing is he the oldest deer in the Forest, and they call him the wisest for a reason. He is watching and listening and smelling very, very intently, ready to take off at a moment's notice.]
no subject
No, no, relax ... take a load off for another ten seconds
until he's in range. ]no subject
Yup nope he's out bro he is right on out of here.]

[ asa, some people say the same thing of you, considering the antlers and deer-like ears and dappling. ]
You know, I-- I've had the most people ask me if one of my parents was someone like you.
no subject
[Yeah he's eyeing that a little uncertainly.]
What manner of creature are you?
no subject
[ an embarrassed twitch, ears swiveling back. ] My father was a-- a kind of forest-god. I'm half-human, though.

[EYEING YOU HE ALREADY WAS THINKING THOSE EARS AND ANTLERS AND SUCH MIGHT JUST BE ANOTHER TRICK YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO CONVINCE HIM OTHERWISE.]

[Man what is with this place? The Great Prince is keeping his distance, but as long as this serpent keeps away from him as well, he will stop and talk. Snakes do eat smaller animals, and he does avoid them from the knowledge that some are dangerous, but they are not the deadliest creatures of the forest. There's no need for alarm here, not unless he's given cause.]

I agree. You have a very admirable outlook, My Lord. [She gives a serpentine equivalent of a smile (difficult to do and awkward-looking thanks to a lack of lips) and nods, contentedly licking the air.]
It is encouraging to witness such nobility in these modern times.

He inclines his antlered head.]
If not I, who?

Though this line of conversation is kind of pointless since she'd never even consider it, and would likely be appalled at the suggestion of such. She's a benevolent water deity, not a hunter.
Most of what she eats is in the form of offerings to the gods anyway.]And I will bestow upon you whatever protection I can manage. [Even if that just means keeping him safe when crossing rivers or something like that.]
