Okay, you took a ridiculously long amount of time with this. Do you know how many pranks we could've done in that time? A lot! So you really owe me an apology here. Still, I am glad you decided to bring me here at all, so thanks for that!

Now what's this about me with white hair? I'm not... No, I can't be, that's not possible! You're worrying me here. I can't be...

[Trust Jack, Jack, he's being using this sort of power for jokes over the last few centuries. There's a reason you're at the top of the Naughty list.]

[Nodding, he tries to copy the actions Jack had done to make the snowball, but he's a lot clumsier with the hand motions and stuff. Aand he doesn't make a snowball when he does it. So there's that too]

It's not coming naturally.

Like I said, the hair comes with the job.

[There's a hint that it's in your future, Jack. Speaking of which...he pauses.]

What were you doing before you got dragged here anyway?

I was in town, buying a Christmas present for m- our sister. She wanted ice skates, remember?

[Well he couldn't say he exactly remembered the deets (they were really still a bit fuzzy even after regaining some of the important memories), still he makes a face.]

Right. She wouldn't stop badgering us until we taught her how to.

[He'll accept that, but it's weird to think about losing memories of your own life...]

Yeah, she was really persistent and really annoying. So! Now I'm going to teach her. I was gonna fill her boots with some snow so when she steps into them they're cold and squishy and startling almost? Thought that might be fun.

[Good lord he really was a prankster in his past life, wasn't he? Sheesh. Still, he gives a small smile.]

Take your crook with you when you go skating.

[Hey, pranks are fun and she wasn't respecting her big brother! It's only natural she'd deserve a boot full of snow]

Why? I'm not going to need it there.

[Poor girl. ~~And then she got traumatized.~~]

For what? Another prank? I think she'll notice something's up if I bring it along with us so she won't be as surprised...

[There's no fun in a prank without the surprise and he needs her to be really surprised. Like your big brother just died in front of your very eyes surprised]

[He shakes his head.]

Not a prank. Look it's just...something big's going to happen. I can't tell you what it is because I doubt it'll change, but when you remember it later you won't regret it.

Tell me. I'll find out anyways so tell me now. It can't hurt to be prepared, right?

[He smiles slightly, but it's clear he's serious]

Well, it's not like North or Bunny are going to find out I told you and might've screwed up the timeline by accident if you actually do change anything...

[He lifts a bare foot, scratching the back of his shin in thought. There really was no easy way to say this.]

The ice is gonna be thin.

[Jack nods as the other talks, not really sure what to say in response to directions and animals finding out about time? Or something like that

A deep breath and he nods once more, but this one actually shows some understanding]

So we won't go 'til the ice gets thicker. Easy!

[He shakes his head. The ice won't get thicker until next winter.]

No no. You need to go when the ice is thin. Like I said, when you remember what happened later you won't regret it, but it needs to happen in order for you to become like me.

Why would I take my sister out when the ice is thin? She could fall in, and she'd get scared, and it's her first time, and I'm not that mean. This isn't funny.

[He's mad, to say the least]

[Oh my god.]

We save her, you idiot. Why do you think I told you to take your crook?

[Clearly, his plan makes the most sense and would do the least harm to their sister. Meanwhile other Jack's...]

You're the idiot here! I wouldn't need to take my crook if it didn't happen in the first place!

[Well clearly, but frosty Jack still thinks things should go ahead like MiM planned.]

See, this is why I was avoiding telling you what actually happened. How do you think I became like this? It's not like I can take a tube of hair dye and bleach my hair. [Sorry for all the modern references, other Jack.] We die in her place, we become the spirit of winter.

[He pauses, taking deep breaths every now and then. He almost tries to blow it all off as a joke, but he can tell when he's joking and when he's not. And other Jack definitely isn't joking right now, as much as he'd like to believe he was]

No. I'm not going to die if I don't need to. I can save her and myself if we just don't go to the lake at all this winter. She wouldn't want me dead. And I'd rather have her happy than to be able to make snowballs. I'm not going to die.

[It's definitely not a joke, though Jack is finding his other self's reaction a bit of a joke. He leaned against his staff, sighing as he ran his fingers through his hair. Sure he hadn't remembered his human life for three hundred years but still...it had to happen somehow]

It's not like we don't come back. Manny wouldn't have chosen us to be a Guardian if he thought we were a coward.

Okay, look, I have no idea what you're talking about when you say "Manny" or mention rabbits or anything like that!

And... [He sighs reluctantly] I'm not a coward, but. [He's scared, as anyone would be in his situation] Will I be able to be with my family again? Even when... I'm like this?

[He pauses. There wasn't really any way to say it would be okay. Well, obviously it would be otherwise he wouldn't be there, but no memory meant that he had completely forgotten. He remembered waking up scared, dude, it's okay.]

Well...not our family family. [He rubs the back of his neck.] I got to watch her grow up at least.

[There is an obvious fear and urgency to his voice. Jack's just so... confused about all of this]

Why not? Why couldn't you play with her anymore? She'd love that snowball trick! I bet you could surprise her with it and some of the snow would fall into her dress and down her back, but she'd laugh anyways even though she'd probably end up getting sick because of it. Why couldn't you do that instead of watching?

There's...a bit of a catch.

[God he sounded like Pitch when he said that.]

People need to believe in you in order to be able to see you. This place negates that but back home...well, let's just say that three hundred years is a long wait.

[But worth it. The look on Jamie's face had been so worth it.]
